Karl-Anthony Towns tallied 24 points while Anthony Edwards contributed 23 points along with eight assists in the away team Minnesota Timberwolves’ commanding 121-100 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday, in a clash of elite Western Conference squads.

Rudy Gobert notched 17 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocked shots, whereas Nickeil Alexander-Walker chipped in with 15 points as the Timberwolves, currently leading the pack, soared to a 2-1 record on their ongoing five-game road trip leading up to the All-Star break. Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid also contributed with 11 points each.

Minnesota deployed an impenetrable defense to seize control, outscoring the Clippers 40-19 in the third quarter. Los Angeles was limited to a 35 percent shooting accuracy in that period.

Kawhi Leonard and Paul George managed 18 points each, with James Harden adding 17 for the Clippers, who, with a league-leading 26-6 record since December’s inception, pushed themselves within striking distance of the Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves solidified their position at the top of the conference by holding the Clippers to a 40.5 percent shooting efficiency for the game.

Russell Westbrook contributed 11 points and Ivica Zubac secured 11 rebounds for the Clippers, who suffered losses in two of their recent three games. The Clippers’ final matchup before the break will be against Golden State on Tuesday, falling to a 20-6 record at home.

Minnesota swiftly took control, establishing an initial 26-17 lead and concluded the first quarter ahead with a 28-24 margin. The Timberwolves extended their lead to as many as 10 points in the second quarter and maintained a 53-49 edge at halftime.

The Clippers managed to equalize at 62-62 with 7:23 left in the third quarter before the Timberwolves asserted their dominance. Minnesota closed the quarter with a 12-1 scoring spree to establish an 89-72 lead, never looking back from that point onwards.

Out of the Clippers’ four defeats in the last month, two have been at the hands of the Timberwolves, including a 109-105 loss on Jan. 14 in Minneapolis. The Timberwolves will aim for a three-game season sweep when they face off once more on March 12 in Los Angeles.

The Impact of Rudy Gobert's Absence Against the Nuggets in Game 2

Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.

In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.

Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.

Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.

If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
