Kyle Kuzma achieved a game-high of 31 points, propelling the Washington Wizards to a 109-102 victory against the visiting Sacramento Kings on Thursday.

Deni Avdija contributed 17 points and nine rebounds for the Wizards (12-58), while Corey Kispert notched 15 points. Jordan Poole added 14 points and Richaun Holmes secured 16 rebounds for Washington, putting an end to their five-game slump.

De’Aaron Fox led the Kings (40-29) with 25 points, along with six steals, five rebounds, and five assists. Malik Monk scored 20 points coming off the bench, Keegan Murray with 16 points, and Domantas Sabonis with 14 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists. Harrison Barnes contributed 12 points for Sacramento, who had their two-game winning streak broken.

After leading by two points at halftime, the Wizards initiated a 13-2 scoring spree at the beginning of the second half, establishing a 69-56 lead on a driving layup by Avdija with 8:36 left in the third quarter.

A 3-pointer by Jared Butler widened Washington’s lead even further in the third quarter, reaching 84-68 at the 3:06 mark.

Subsequent scores by Sabonis and Murray, along with four consecutive points by Monk, narrowed the Kings’ margin to 84-76 as they entered the final quarter.

Sacramento continued their momentum in the fourth quarter, embarking on a 12-3 surge — with 10 points courtesy of Fox — taking them to an 88-87 advantage with 8:42 remaining.

Poole countered with a three-point play, followed by a layup from Butler, kickstarting a 10-3 run by the Wizards.

With a 103-99 lead, Kispert and Kuzma extended the gap with 1:21 left, and the Kings could not close the deficit to less than five for the remainder of the game.

In the opening quarter, Anthony Gill‘s layup propelled Washington to a 27-19 lead at the 3:25 mark, and they furthered their advantage to 35-27 by the end of the quarter.

Following a pair of free throws by Alex Len trimming the Kings’ deficit to six at the start of the second quarter, Gill finalized a 7-0 run that provided Washington with a 42-29 lead at the 9:43 mark.

The Wizards’ lead reached 19 when Kuzma’s driving layup elevated them to a 52-33 advantage with 6:36 remaining in the second quarter.

Nonetheless, a 21-2 surge by Sacramento culminated with Barnes’ dunk with 52 seconds left in the first half, equalizing the score at 54.

Kuzma led the Wizards with 18 points in the first half, while Fox and Monk each contributed 10 points for Sacramento.
