The CIF State high school basketball championships are set to take place this Friday and Saturday at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, which serves as the home arena for the NBA’s Sacramento Kings.
While some teams are no strangers to this grand occasion, such as Sierra Canyon, who is making its fourth CIF State final appearance, others like Roosevelt are gearing up for their first-ever Open Division final.
This serves as your official guide to the championship weekend, providing insights into each team and matchup ahead of the CIF State title games—shedding light on key players and noteworthy facts.
FRIDAY, MARCH 14
12PM – Division V: Diamond Ranch (23-14) vs. International (24-12)
PANTHERS: After a setback in the Division 5AA final, Diamond Ranch has made a remarkable comeback to secure a spot in the CIF State final. Senior forward Michael Salazar and junior guard Devin Turner each scored 22 points in their regional final win against Math & Science College Prep of the LA City Section.
Jaiden Pullian contributed 11 points and nine rebounds in the regional final before exiting due to fouls, presenting a potential x-factor for Diamond Ranch this Friday.
JAGUARS: After falling short in the section finals against Alhambra, the Jaguars redirected their focus just in time. They avenged this loss with a narrow 50-49 victory over Alhambra in the regional semifinals, and earlier this week, they stunned Fortune Early College with a 71-63 win, thanks to an impressive 39-point performance from their standout guard Conor Maguire.
The explosive scoring by Maguire isn’t a one-off event; the 6-foot senior holds a North Coast Section record for sinking 14 three-pointers in a single game, racking up 63 points in a league matchup. Supporting him, Will Savill-Welch made his mark with 11 points, nine rebounds, and nine blocks during the regional final.
4PM – Division III: San Gabriel Academy (20-13) vs. King’s Academy (27-4)
EAGLES: SGA is competing in their inaugural CIF State final, primarily driven by the exceptional play of 6-foot-11 sophomore center Mahamadou Diop, who recorded 16 points, 16 boards, and seven blocks in recent games. Alongside him, SGA boasts fellow sophomore Mahamed Toure ( standing tall at 6-foot-8) and freshman Oumar Dabo, who measures 6-foot-8 as well, marking them as formidable contenders in Sacramento.
KNIGHTS: In a thrilling chapter of their journey, King’s Academy has transformed into a high-scoring team, thriving on transition offense, averaging just under 70 points per game. In their regional playoff victories, they put up scores of 73, 75, and 70. Their lineup includes guards Caedmon Dickson (15.6 ppg), Claxton Ladine (15.6), Xavier Barnett (14.3), forward Karan Kolappa (14.4), and talented freshman wing Boss Mhoon (11.8).
8PM – Division I: Sierra Canyon (26-7) vs. Stockton Lincoln (31-4)
TRAILBLAZERS: Regardless of the outcome, Friday night signifies the end of the ‘James Era’ for Sierra Canyon, highlighting a six-year tenure featuring Bronny and Bryce James, sons of the legendary LeBron James. The Trailblazers had their eyes set on Sacramento back in 2020 during Bronny’s freshman year, but the season was derailed by the pandemic, preventing any CIF State finals from occurring.
Notable players for Sierra Canyon to keep an eye on include Maxi Adams, Bryce Cofield, and Gavin Hightower, with Bryce James currently averaging 8.0 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.
TROJANS: Hidden in plain sight, Lincoln has impressively secured at least 25 wins for five consecutive seasons (excluding the COVID-impacted year) under coach Anthony Matthews’ leadership since 2019. This season marks their first with over 30 wins, their only tight defeats coming from the perennial NorCal powerhouse Modesto Christian.
Leading the Trojans is 6-6 wing Anthony Moore (17.8 ppg), supported by senior guards Donez Lindsey (14.3) and Isaiah “Zeke” Davis (11.3), along with 6-8 post Dilan Fanucchi.
SATURDAY, MARCH 15
12PM – Division IV: Fresno Christian (30-6) vs. Woodside Priory (25-6)
EAGLES: Coach Jon Penberthy revealed to the Fresno Bee that the program had never progressed beyond the first round of the CIF State playoffs until now. The Eagles narrowly defeated Granada Hills Charter 60-59 in the regional final, securing their first-ever chance at a CIF State final.
PANTHERS: Before their 60-48 regional final win over Santa Cruz on Tuesday, Priory had just one other NorCal final appearance, resulting in a loss to Stuart Hall in 2022. After a difficult 2023-24 start at 10-14, the Panthers found their rhythm through a high-octane offense averaging 70.0 points per game, driven by 6-8, 230-pound junior Mate Palotal (15.1), 5-8 junior point guard Jai Gerrodette (13.3), and 6-6, 225-pound sophomore Teddy Xanthopoulos (13.0).
4PM – Division II: Chatsworth (26-8) vs. Sacramento Jesuit (26-9)
CHANCELLORS: Alijah Arenas is stepping back into the CIF State finals. The son of former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, Alijah is a 2025 McDonald’s All-American and USC commit, eager to finish what he started after falling short in last year’s Division IV final despite netting 44 points. Averaging 30 points per game this season, he is only 20 points shy of becoming the first player from the LA City Section to reach 3,000 career points.
MARAUDERS: Since coach Tim Kelly’s arrival in 2018, Jesuit has consistently won at least 20 games across five seasons, barring a pandemic-affected year and a 14-14 record in 2021-22. Following a heartbreaking section final loss to Rocklin, the Marauders have rebounded impressively with four consecutive victories, all closely contested with scores of 64-50, 63-56, 63-60, and 65-55, including a win over Destiny Christian, marking Jesuit’s 10th NorCal finals appearance and their first win in nearly…
30 years. Defense is pivotal for success, alongside the standout contributions from 6-5 senior guard Asher Schroeder (17 ppg, 10 rpg), 6-6 post Amaury McKinney, and 6-3 senior point guard Luke Browne.
8PM – Open Division: Roosevelt (34-2) vs. Archbishop Riordan (29-1)
MUSTANGS: Roosevelt boasts a formidable trio in Brayden Burries, Myles Walker, and Issac Williamson, all aiming to finish their senior year by clinching an Open Division state championship and achieving the coveted California triple crown: Open section, regional, and state titles.
Burries is recognized as a 5-star McDonald’s All-American. Williamson has committed to New Mexico, while Walker, a 5-foot-9 dynamo, is ready to make an impact at a college program.
CRUSADERS: Lauded as the best team in the school’s storied history, Riordan excels defensively, allowing an average of only 40.6 ppg. Their top scorer, Jasir Rencher, a 6-6 wing set to join Texas A&M, plays a crucial role in this effort. Post defenders Nes Emeneke, a 6-10 senior committed to Riverside, and 6-9 junior JP Pihtovs, challenge their opponents to score from beyond the arc.
Another key player is 6-4 junior guard Andrew Hilman, who led the team with 17 points in their 52-40 regional title win against De La Salle. Eastern Arizona-bound point guard Ryder Bush brings explosive energy to the court, as does John Tofi Jr., a 6-6, 210-pound football commit heading to Cal, who provides an immediate spark off the bench.
