Just a day after missing the semifinals due to illness, Duke commit Emilee Skinner returned to lead the Riverhawks to a 65-46 victory against the previously undefeated Snow Canyon (St. George). Skinner achieved 21 points, nine rebounds, and three steals before fainting midway through the fourth quarter, receiving a standing ovation as she exited the court.
Brooke Smith contributed 18 points for Ridgeline while Abby Munford offered a solid performance with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Md.) jumped to No. 4 following their Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title win on Monday, where they triumphed over No. 21 Bishop Ireton (Alexandria, Va.) with a score of 61-41. The Mustangs dominated the second half, outscoring the Cardinals 39-24, with Qandace Samuels leading the charge with 15 points.
After finishing unbeaten in WCAC play, Bishop McNamara is set to enter the Maryland Private School tournament as the No. 1 seed starting March 4.
In California, a highly anticipated Southern Section Open Division final is on the horizon, featuring a top 10 matchup between No. 1 Ontario Christian (Ontario) and No. 6 Etiwanda. The Knights, ranked first, secured their pool with a 62-52 win over No. 9 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth), fueled by sophomore Kaleena Smith‘s 21 points and 11 assists. Freshman Tati Griffin also played a vital role with 19 points.
Etiwanda has made it to the Southern Section Open Division championship game for four consecutive seasons and has claimed the state title in the last two. On Saturday, they secured a thrilling 63-60 victory against No. 7 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) with crucial defensive stops in the final moments.
Cal commit Aliyahna Morris and junior Arynn Finley were pivotal down the stretch for the Eagles, who aim for an unprecedented third consecutive Open Division state title.
Monterey (Lubbock, Texas) enters the Top 25 as one of four new teams after making it to the Class 5A Division II semifinals. This marks their deepest playoff run since 1990, with Aaliyah Chavez and the Plainsmen set to face off against 33-7 Memorial (Frisco) on Tuesday.
Chavez is currently averaging an impressive 35.6 points per game and is poised to break into the 15th spot on the all-time scoring list with a score on Tuesday.
Joining Monterey in this week’s rankings are No. 17 Paul VI (Haddonfield, N.J.), No. 23 St. Francis (Alpharetta, Ga.), and No. 24 Lincoln (Dallas, Texas).
