Thunder Halt Jazz Winning Streak at Six

CLOSE battle vs. Thunder at home

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had an impressive performance, scoring 31 points and leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 134-129 victory over the Utah Jazz on Thursday night in Salt Lake City. The win put an end to the Jazz’s six-game winning streak.

Jalen Williams was in excellent form, hitting 11 of 14 shots to earn 27 points and contributing eight assists. Josh Giddey also played a significant role, scoring 20 points, securing 10 rebounds, and making six assists as the Thunder bounced back from two losses in Los Angeles.

Utah’s Collin Sexton delivered a strong performance with 31 points and seven assists, while Lauri Markkanen added 26 points and 10 rebounds.

However, their efforts were not enough to complete a comeback after falling behind early.

John Collins also made a valuable contribution with 21 points. Despite this loss, it was only the Jazz’s second defeat in 11 games.

Cason Wallace achieved a career-high by scoring four 3-pointers to accumulate 16 points, while Chet Holmgren showcased his versatility with 15 points, five rebounds, five assists, and four blocks for the Thunder.

Oklahoma City never trailed and displayed a remarkable shooting accuracy of 55.8 percent overall, including 43.8 percent from 3-point range (14-for-32), along with distributing 36 assists.

The Jazz found themselves trailing by 19 points in the first quarter and were still down by a dozen midway through the fourth quarter.

Although Sexton and Markkanen initiated a late surge, bringing the game within four points in the final two minutes, Gilgeous-Alexander and Wallace sealed the win with crucial plays.

Despite Jordan Clarkson‘s 18 points and a late 3-pointer, the Thunder managed to maintain a leading position and secure the road win. Although Utah had opportunities to narrow the gap in the final 20 seconds, they were unable to capitalize on them.

The Thunder took control of the game early with a 9-0 run, building a 19-9 lead. They maintained the momentum, extending their lead to 19 points before ending the first quarter with a 39-27 advantage.

Holmgren’s last-second 3-pointer gave Oklahoma City a 76-67 lead at halftime. Utah made a comeback in the third quarter, eventually reaching a tie at 91-91, thanks to a 7-0 spurt that began with a Sexton 3-pointer.

A 3-pointer from Isaiah Joe ended Oklahoma City’s rough patch, and the team surged back ahead in the fourth quarter, establishing a 113-102 lead after a 3-pointer from Williams.

During this crucial period, the Thunder managed to score 15 points in just over three minutes.
