Terry Rozier dominated with 27 points, while Bam Adebayo contributed 22 points, nine rebounds, and five assists for the Miami Heat, pushing Washington Wizards closer to a disappointing final season record with a 119-107 outcome on Sunday.

Rozier showcased his scoring prowess by netting 20 points in the first half, displaying a remarkable shooting performance of 11-of-19 from the field, with 5-of-11 coming from beyond the arc, matching his highest-scoring game since joining Miami in late January.

Jimmy Butler also made a significant impact with 17 points, eight rebounds, and four assists for Miami (41-33), positioning them just half a game behind Indiana for the sixth spot in the playoff race in the Eastern Conference. Nikola Jovic and Haywood Highsmith chipped in with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Washington (14-61) finds themselves in a precarious position, needing five wins to avoid setting a new low in win percentage compared to the 1961-62 Chicago Packers. The team struggled against Miami in the first half but failed to maintain the competitive edge.

Rozier’s late surge before halftime, including two crucial 3-pointers, handed the Heat a comfortable seven-point lead, followed by a strong defensive effort limiting Washington to just 21 points in the third quarter, securing a double-digit lead that Miami maintained until the final buzzer.

Miami extended their lead to 18 points at one stage, with the Wizards attempting to mount a comeback but falling short in the face of the Heat’s response, sealing their fate.

Washington’s defeat marked their third consecutive loss following their brief three-game winning streak, with Jordan Poole leading the team’s scoring efforts at 22 points, supported by Anthony Gill‘s 18 points and Deni Avdija‘s all-around performance of 15 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.

Looking ahead, Miami enters a crucial six-game stretch that could dictate their playoff prospects, facing off against teams currently in contention for postseason spots, setting the stage for an intense battle in the upcoming matches.
