As Tennessee high school football gears up for the upcoming season in just a few months, many of last year’s standout players are set to return for the 2025 campaign.
From seasoned seniors to emerging sophomores, these athletes have made a mark with their skill, leadership, and determination, driving their teams to success and thrilling fans across the Volunteer State.
Jared Curtis, (2026) Nashville Christian
Curtis ranks as one of the nation’s premier uncommitted quarterbacks. As the leading QB prospect for the 2026 class per 247Sports and other scouting platforms, he will decide between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Oregon Ducks this May. Last season, he amassed 2,830 yards with 179 completions and an impressive 40 touchdown passes, having thrown only three interceptions while guiding Nashville Christian to the state championship.
Briggs Cherry, (2026) Baylor
The Baylor High School quarterback had an impressive first year as a starter after transferring, following his earlier season in Knoxville. Cherry concluded the season with 31 touchdown passes, 2,718 passing yards, a completion rate of 69%, and just three interceptions. He propelled the Red Raiders to the state championship game, though they narrowly fell short against the McCallie Blue Tornadoes. Cherry is currently committed to Louisville.
Femi Babalola, (2026) Ravenwood
Babalola is a strong quarterback, built at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds. He led his team to an impressive 13-1 record last season, which unfortunately ended with a semifinal loss to the Houston Mustangs. Babalola notched 1,152 passing yards, 10 touchdown passes, and four interceptions, along with a rushing touchdown and over 100 rushing yards.
Tyler Cook, (2026) Bradley Central
Cook is poised for an opportunity in the Bradley Central system after a limited debut season due to injury. Following clearance to participate in sports again, he’s also taking part in baseball for the Bears. Last season, he was a mentor to his younger brother, Tucker, who is expected to play a supportive role this year alongside the highly regarded quarterback. Cook gained recognition even while serving as a backup, learning under Kaleb Martin.
Hugh Price, (2026) MBA
After a challenging 4-8 season, Price and the Big Red look toward a new horizon. They encountered tough opponents like Baylor and McCallie. As a notable 6-foot-5 quarterback, Price represents a bright spot, with the potential to shine next season and establish himself as one of the standout players in the state.
Kelvin Perkins, (2026) Southwind
Southwind quarterback Perkins had a remarkable 2024 season, finishing with just one interception and 27 touchdown passes. Averaging 159 yards per game, he accumulated a total of 1,759 yards and propelled his team to an 11-2 record. The Jaguars, however, were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs by Beech, who won decisively by 30 points. Perkins is anticipated to have a standout season ahead.
Taylor Hasselbeck, (2026) Ensworth
Hasselbeck returns as a seasoned starter for the Ensworth Tigers after leading the team to an 11-1 record in the state’s most competitive division. As a multi-sport athlete and an all-state performer in football, he’s eager to guide his team forward following a successful junior season, which only saw a loss to the McCallie Blue Tornadoes that advanced them to the state title match.
Elliott Drapeau, (2026) McCallie
The McCallie Blue Tornadoes are in prime position for another successful season with their senior quarterback Drapeau returning, alongside standout Keeyshawn Tabuteau. Drapeau led his team to the state title after a thrilling victory over Baylor, who had bested them during the regular season. Last season, Drapeau threw for 1,864 yards, 16 touchdowns, and averaged 169 yards per game while limiting himself to five interceptions.
Bronzden Chaffin, (2026) Upperman
Chaffin is a talented leader, having guided the Bees to an impressive 11-1 record before their playoff exit against Macon County. The Bees’ quarterback finished the 2024 season with 1,383 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions. With a significant senior season on the horizon, he plans to lead the Bees toward the state championship.
Julian Murdic, (2026) Ezell-Harding
Murdic is focused on concluding his high school career on a high note. As a talented quarterback with aspirations of growth, he has been diligently working on improvement this offseason. He is currently regarded as a three-star prospect by 247Sports.
Andre Adams, (2027) Antioch
It wouldn’t be right to overlook Adams, who enjoyed an exceptional sophomore year with the Bears. He finished the season with 1,435 yards, 12 touchdown passes, and five interceptions, proving himself as one of the state’s top prospects for the 2027 class. Adams aims to elevate the Bears after a 6-5 record last season.
Cooper Newman, (2027) Sevier County
Newman is hailed as one of the foremost quarterbacks in the 2027 class nationwide. As a two-year starter, he had a stellar 2024 season with the Smoky Bears, leading them to victory in the state championship against Page in Chattanooga. Newman wrapped up the season with an impressive total of 3,488 passing yards, 45 touchdowns, and just one interception.
Kaedyn Marable, (2026) Battle Ground Acadmey
Marable has proven to be a tough competitor, leading the Wildcats to an 11-2 record last season. Entering his final year with the Wildcats, Marable is coming off a breakout junior season, despite falling short against CPA in the state championship game. He tallied 3,338 yards, with 35 touchdown passes and only three interceptions, and looks forward to a successful senior season.
Tyler Thompson, (2026) Marshall County
Thompson is gearing up for his concluding season with the Tigers after leading them to a one-loss record last year, with their sole defeat coming at the hands of Pearl-Cohn in the playoffs. He compiled 2,824 yards, 45 touchdowns, and seven interceptions during the prior season.
Graham Simpson, (2028) Westview
Freshman Simpson is entering his second season on the heels of a remarkable debut, finishing his inaugural season with an impressive 2,752 yards and 45 touchdown passes. Recognized as one of the brightest young quarterbacks in the nation, he guided his team to the state championship game, ultimately losing to Alcoa.
Blake Waldorf, (2027) Watertown
During the 2024 season, the standout performer Waldorf amassed 2,668 yards, 26 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Though Watertown concluded the season with a 3-10 record, Waldorf’s performance was a silver lining for the team.
Amari Lethgo, (2027) Halls
Lethgo returns as a two-season starter and has enjoyed a noteworthy career thus far. In the previous season, the skilled QB tallied 2,602 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions, leading his team to a 9-4 record. As a result, he is poised to be one of the top returning starters in 2025.
Ryan Wirtzfield, (2026) The Webb School
Wirtzfield is expected to receive additional support next season and is accumulating valuable experience in preparation for his senior year. He will once again have Joel Wyatt as a target. Last season, Wirtzfield recorded 2,548 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
Maddox “Caden” Jones, (2026) Chattanooga Central
Jones aims for another strong season with the Pounders after finishing last year with 2,010 passing yards and 15 touchdowns. Although he faced eight interceptions, he still guided the Pounders to a 7-5 record.
Connor Jenne, (2027) Silverdale Academy
Jenne concluded last season with 1,970 passing yards and 22 touchdowns. Recognized as one of the leading QBs in the Chattanooga area, he is set for another exciting season in 2025.
Ty Snell, (2029) Lipscomb Academy
Snell is a promising quarterback for Lipscomb Academy. The 2027 prospect has been rising rapidly in the state and is expected to continue his growth as he embarks on his junior year with the Mustangs.
Austin Jones, (2027) Chattanooga Prep
Jones has already piqued the interest of numerous college coaches and is set for a standout junior season with the Sentinels.
