Steph Curry Puts Up 60 points, but Hawks Defeat Warriors in OT

Dejounte Murray prolonged the game with a jump shot in the closing moments of regular time and then netted seven consecutive points during the extra period, enabling the home team Atlanta Hawks to clinch a 141-134 triumph over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday evening despite Stephen Curry’s remarkable 60-point performance.
Culminating an intense finale for teams playing back-to-back games, the Hawks leveled the score at 123-123 when Murray sank a 14-foot shot with 4.6 seconds left.
Curry, who had managed to score 13 consecutive points for the Warriors, reaching 52 by that juncture, had an opportunity to clinch victory but failed to convert a running shot at the regulation buzzer.
The extra period belonged entirely to the Hawks, who secured their fourth successive win by rattling off the first 11 points.
Onyeka Okongwu connected from inside and Jalen Johnson executed a drive to give Atlanta the upper hand in the initial 63 seconds of overtime before Murray sealed the deal with a three-point play and two perimeter shots.
Curry, who had amassed 22 of his 60 points in the final period, contributed eight of Golden State’s 11 points in overtime, culminating in his second 60-point game of his career.
His endeavor to establish a new personal best with a 3-pointer with 54.3 seconds remaining missed the mark, leaving him two points shy of the 62 he had scored against the Portland Trail Blazers in 2021.
Curry made 22 of 38 attempts overall and 10 of 23 from beyond the arc. Trae Young engaged in a neck-and-neck battle with Curry for most of the evening and finished with a team-high of 35 points for the Hawks, connecting on seven of 11 attempts from beyond the arc.
Hawks’ frontcourt players Okongwu (22 points, game-high 16 rebounds) and Clint Capela (17 points, 15 rebounds) collectively contributed 39 points and 31 rebounds, while Johnson secured a third double-double for Atlanta with 21 points and 13 rebounds, in addition to sharing the game-high eight assists.
Murray, despite shooting just 9-for-24 from the field, accumulated 19 points, and Bogdan Bogdanovic added 13 for Atlanta.
Lester Quinones tallied 17 points, Jonathan Kuminga acquired 16 before fouling out, and Brandin Podziemski concluded with 15 points to lead with a team-high of 11 rebounds for the Warriors, who were pursuing a third consecutive win.
Klay Thompson contributed 10 points on 4-of-19 shooting and Kevon Looney snared 10 rebounds for the depleted Warriors, who lost Andrew Wiggins (two points) to an ankle injury shortly before halftime.

Wolves C Rudy Gobert (Personal) Uncertain for Game 2
The Impact of Rudy Gobert's Absence Against the Nuggets in Game 2
Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.
In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.
Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.
Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.
If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
