Short-Handed 76ers Stumble Against Blazers

Jerami Grant achieved 27 points and Malcolm Brogdon contributed 24 points and distributed nine assists to assist the home team Portland Trail Blazers in securing a 130-104 win over the undermanned Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night.
The 76ers were missing the current MVP and leading scorer in the NBA, Joel Embiid (knee), for the second consecutive game. Philadelphia’s record without Embiid this season dropped to 3-9.
Tyrese Maxey (ankle), the second highest scorer for the Sixers, missed his second straight match also.
Portland took advantage of this situation by dominating in the latter half, securing only the fifth win in the last 16 games and achieving their largest win margin of the season.
Scoot Henderson scored 22 points coming off the bench, Deandre Ayton contributed 18, and Anfernee Simons achieved 15 for the Trail Blazers.
Kelly Oubre Jr. came through with 25 points for Philadelphia, experiencing their second largest loss margin of the season and falling to 0-3 on a five-game road trip. Patrick Beverley added 14 points and Paul Reed achieved 11 for the 76ers.
Philadelphia only managed to make 5 of 29 (17.2 percent) of their shots from behind the arc and finished with an overall 44.6 percent from the field. Jabari Walker secured 12 rebounds for Portland, who outscored the 76ers 72-49 in the second half.
The Trail Blazers achieved a shooting percentage of 54.8 and made 12 out of 28 (42.9 percent) of their 3-pointers. Portland ended the first half with a three point lead and then went on a 14-0 run in the third quarter.
During this run, Walker scored seven points and Brogdon contributed five, taking the Trail Blazers to an 80-63 lead with 5:42 remaining in the period. The lead extended to 89-70 when Grant made two successful free throws with 2:30 left in the third quarter.
Portland then entered the final quarter with a 94-77 lead. Brogdon hit a long 3-pointer and Ayton followed with a basket, advancing to 105-79 with 7:54 left in the game. The lead for Portland peaked at 31 points.
Grant achieved 20 points in the first half, with the Trail Blazers leading 58-55 at halftime. Oubre scored 14 points in the first half for Philadelphia.
The Trail Blazers were trailing 28-20 after the first quarter, but then Grant emerged with 14 points in the second quarter, helping Portland to achieve 38 points in that period.

Wolves C Rudy Gobert (Personal) Uncertain for Game 2
The Impact of Rudy Gobert's Absence Against the Nuggets in Game 2
Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.
In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.
Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.
Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.
If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
