Record-Setting Joel Embiid, Blazing Sixers Head to Pacers

When they kick off a five-game journey against the Indiana Pacers in Indianapolis this Thursday, Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers will take their performance on the road.
In his most recent appearance, Embiid showcased an outstanding performance, exploding for a franchise-high 70 points in the Sixers’ 133-123 triumph over the San Antonio Spurs at home on Monday.
The reigning NBA MVP made 24 of 41 shots from the field and 21 of 23 tries from the foul line. He also secured a season-best 18 rebounds for Philadelphia, which has secured six consecutive victories.
“Obviously he can score in so many ways, just his sheer size gets him a lot of stuff around the basket, gets him a lot of free throws,” 76ers coach Nick Nurse said of Embiid, who has scored at least 30 points in 21 consecutive games.
“The shooting touch is the skill part. The way he moves, the skill he has, the size he is, and he gets motivated like that, anything can happen I guess.”
Embiid, who averages an unsurpassed 36.1 points per game, made an effort to contextualize his impressive performance.
“It’s not like I just woke up one day and I was like, ‘I gotta try and go out and dominate and have the best game of my career.’ I try to do that every night,” Embiid said, per the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Earlier in the season, Embiid delivered two remarkable displays against Indiana. He amassed 37 points and 13 rebounds in the 76ers’ 137-126 victory over the Pacers on Nov. 12 and followed up with 39 points and 12 rebounds in a 132-126 defeat two days later.
Tyrese Haliburton, who averaged a team-leading 23.6 points and an NBA-best 12.6 assists, contributed 25 and 33 points, respectively, in those matches. However, the All-Star guard missed the Pacers’ 114-109 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday due to a hamstring injury and will also be absent from Thursday’s game.
Despite being sidelined, Haliburton openly showed his support for his teammates from the sidelines on Tuesday.
“That’s who Ty is. He’s a vocal leader and is happy for every guy one through 15,” Indiana’s T.J. McConnell said. “The confidence that he instills in everybody … when your franchise guy is like that, it’s easy to go out there and play your game. Who he is as a teammate is incredible — one of the best I’ve been around.”
Myles Turner scored 22 points and recent trade acquisition Pascal Siakam added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Pacers, who have suffered three consecutive losses and five defeats in their last six matches.
“So far, I like the personnel we have,” Siakam said. “It seems like the guys care about wanting to win and I think for me that’s the most important. Just being in an environment where at the end of the day, we want to give everything we have to win.
“It’s a lot of encouraging things and a lot of things that we can get better at.”
Andrew Nembhard tallied 15 points and seven assists while filling in for Haliburton in the starting lineup.

Wolves C Rudy Gobert (Personal) Uncertain for Game 2
The Impact of Rudy Gobert's Absence Against the Nuggets in Game 2
Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.
In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.
Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.
Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.
If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
