Phoenix Suns Withstand the Warriors Despite Kevin Durant’s Absence

The Phoenix Suns secured a 119-116 victory over the visiting Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night, with Devin Booker contributing 32 points and seven assists.

The absence of Kevin Durant did not hinder the Suns. Jusuf Nurkic’s performance included 17 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists, as the Suns improved to 3-0 against the Warriors this season. Durant, who missed his second consecutive game due to a sprained left ankle, was a notable absentee.

Stephen Curry accumulated 24 points while Brandin Podziemski added 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Golden State Warriors. This defeat marked the Warriors’ 11th loss in their past 15 games and their sixth consecutive loss on the road.

With 8:23 left in the third quarter, Draymond Green was ejected for a wild open-hand punch to the face of Nurkic. This incident raised questions about Green’s behavior. Bradley Beal, who returned from a 12-game absence due to a back injury, contributed 16 points in 27 minutes for the Phoenix Suns.

Phoenix secured their second win in six games, with Jordan Goodwin and Chimezie Metu scoring 16 and 14 points respectively. For the Warriors, Jonathan Kuminga scored 16 points, while Chris Paul and Dario Saric added 15 points each.

Booker’s impact was evident when he scored 10 points, including two 3-pointers, during a 12-0 run that gave the Suns a 109-96 lead with 3:56 remaining. Although the Warriors rallied and closed the gap to 115-110 with a thunderous dunk by Kuminga, the Suns ultimately closed out the game with a 119-116 victory.

The Suns made 45.2 percent of their shots, including 14 of 39 from 3-point range, while the Warriors connected on 44.6 percent of their attempts and made 16 of 46 from behind the arc.

The Warriors were leading 65-60 when Green was ejected, and this incident sparked a stretch in which the Suns scored 20 of 30 points. Beal’s jumper later provided the Suns with an 88-87 lead entering the final quarter.

In the first half, Curry scored 16 points as the Warriors led 56-53 at halftime, while Booker scored 13 for the Suns.

Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.

In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.

Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.

Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.

If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
