The week of March 31, 2025, was packed with standout performances across Oregon high school sports. From incredible pitching feats to unbeaten streaks, these teams showcased skill, determination, and teamwork.
Let’s take a closer look at the highlights from some of the most remarkable teams this week:
Blanchet Catholic baseball
The Cavaliers demonstrated their prowess with a perfect 3-0 record at the 2025 Battle at the Beach, hosted by Taft High School. Blanchet Catholic secured victories over McLoughlin (20-0), Burns/Crane (14-0), and Valley Catholic (7-0), improving their season record to 4-0. Senior Carson McNally threw a five-inning no-hitter against McLoughlin, racking up eight strikeouts and allowing two walks.
Cascade softball
The Cougars also went undefeated, finishing 4-0 at the North Medford Spring Break Tournament, where they took down North Bend (12-5), Ashland (9-1), Canby (4-3), and Churchill (15-0). Notable performances included home runs from sophomore Haylee Kastl, senior Malia Scanlan, and junior Amyah Miranda throughout the tournament.
Cascade Christian baseball
The Challengers showcased back-to-back no-hit performances during the Challenger Classic. Sophomore Grady Sickler pitched the first no-hitter, striking out 11 batters and allowing four walks in a 17-3 victory against La Pine. Freshman Blake Patereau followed suit with a second no-hitter, registering six strikeouts while permitting one walk and hitting three batters in a 16-1 victory over Banks. Cascade Christian improved their season record to 3-2 with these wins.
Dayton softball
The Pirates celebrated a 4-0 result at the North Medford Spring Break Tournament, triumphing over Salem Academy (5-2), Yreka, Calif. (12-2), Hoopa, Calif. (25-0), and Elmira/Mapleton (15-0). Sophomore Charly Upmeyer knocked a home run in the game against Elmira/Mapleton, helping Dayton improve to 5-0 on the young season.
Hermiston boys track and field
The Bulldogs finished fourth in the team standings at the seventh-annual Clay Lewis Invite, hosted at Hanford (Wash.) High School, scoring 89 points in the 13-team competition. Senior Jaysen Rodriguez won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 9 minutes, 27.75 seconds, leading the Bulldogs.
Jesuit boys lacrosse
The Crusaders achieved two victories during their spring break road trip in Washington, winning against Seattle Prep 13-12 in overtime and defeating Bellevue 12-10. With these wins, Jesuit improved to a perfect 4-0 on the season.
Klamath Union baseball
The Pelicans, who managed just three wins in all of 2023 and six in 2024, improved to 4-2 this season by claiming the White Buffalo Classic held at Madras High School. Klamath Union emerged victorious over Madras (7-6), Neah-Kah-Nie (22-7), and Crook County (7-5) during the event. Freshman Maruk Morris earned a complete-game pitching victory against Madras, collecting eight strikeouts without allowing any walks.
La Grande girls track and field
The Tigers tied for fifth place at the seventh-annual Clay Lewis Invite, scoring 64 points among the 13 participating schools. Senior Cecilia Villagomez claimed victory in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 21.08 seconds, while junior Brooke Perry secured first in the 3,200-meter race with a time of 11:31.26, providing strong support for La Grande.
Marist Catholic baseball
The Spartans swept the Newport Tournament with a 3-0 record, defeating Philomath (11-5), Stayton (6-1), and Gladstone (10-2). Senior Niko Leyba had a stellar performance, going 7 for 7 at the plate, contributing to Marist Catholic’s 4-0 start to the season.
McNary softball
The Celtics completed a 3-0 sweep at the Best of the West Tournament, held at Glencoe High School, with wins over Glencoe (7-6), Southridge (5-1), and Forest Grove (6-2). Junior catcher Josalyn Netzel played a crucial role, hitting a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning during the nail-biter against Glencoe.
Nelson baseball
The Hawks had a shining performance at the Coach Bob Invitational Tournament, finishing with a 4-0 record across several venues in Arizona. Nelson defeated Doherty, Colo. (12-3), Idaho Falls (12-4), Denver Christian (10-0), and Pueblo Central, Colo. (5-3). Senior Noah Boria tallied eight hits and achieved a pitching victory, leading the Hawks to a 5-1 season start.
Newberg baseball
The Tigers enjoyed a strong week, ending with a 4-0 record after defeating David Douglas (11-1) in a nonleague game, followed by wins against Hillsboro (12-1), Parkrose (4-1), and North Salem (11-0) at the Nelson Spring Break Tournament. Junior Carter Hawes was impressive, going 3 for 3 at the plate against David Douglas and hitting a two-run home run against North Salem, bringing Newberg’s record to 5-0 this season.
Pendleton softball
The Buckaroos enjoyed a flawless 4-0 performance at the Battle at the Beach, which took place at Newport High School, dominating Junction City, Tillamook, South Umpqua, and Newport with a remarkable aggregate score of 71-5. Junior Avery Quaempts showcased her talent by going 7 for 8 at the plate, hitting three home runs throughout the tournament.
Ridgeview softball
The Ravens also recorded a perfect 4-0 at the Lady Buff Classic, hosted at Madras High School, defeating La Pine (15-3), Hood River Valley (10-2), McKay (15-0), and Madras (15-0). With these four victories, Ridgeview improved their season record to 5-0.
Sherwood softball
The Bowmen concluded the North Medford Spring Break Tournament with a 4-0 record, overcoming Grants Pass (12-1), West Albany (9-2), Nelson (8-4), and Dallas (2-1). Freshman pitcher Presley Sarono-Ramos accomplished a no-hitter in the game against Dallas, striking out 11 batters while walking three, leading Sherwood to a 5-0 season start.
Silverton baseball
The Foxes claimed victory in all five games of the week, securing wins over Springfield (29-0), Cascade (13-0), and South Eugene (3-2) at the Springfield Tournament, along with narrow victories against North Bend (4-3) and North Marion (12-7) in matches at North Marion High School. Senior Ryne Hockman delivered an exceptional performance, throwing a five-inning no-hitter with 14 strikeouts during the game against Springfield.
South Medford softball
The Panthers emerged victorious in all four of their matchups at the North Medford Spring Break Tournament, defeating Nelson (16-8), Century (6-0), Barlow (2-1), and West Albany (6-0). Senior Jordan Knutson served as the winning pitcher across all four games, helping South Medford improve to 5-0 for the season.
South Salem baseball
The Saxons maintained their unbeaten record, moving to 4-0 on the season with a 5-0 win at Roseburg, followed by a commanding 27–0 victory over Gridley, Calif., and a 13-3 success against Orland, Calif., during games held at Orland High School. Senior Noah Scharer excelled at the plate, going 4 for 4 with two runs in the game at Roseburg, while senior Gavin Price contributed with a 3 for 5 performance that included a home run and six RBIs against Gridley.
Sunset softball
The Apollos swept the Nelson Spring Break Tournament with a perfect 4-0 record, defeating Gresham (18-1), Cleveland (17-0), Sandy (7-1), and Roosevelt (10-0). Sophomore Kaia McKenna shined in the game against Gresham, going 3 for 3 at the plate with a home run and five RBIs, contributing to Sunset’s 6-0 season start.
West Linn boys lacrosse
The Lions celebrated two spring break victories in Arizona, defeating Higley 19-8 and claiming an 8-4 win at Notre Dame Prep. With these successes, West Linn improved their season record to 4-0.
Westview softball
The Wildcats achieved a perfect 4-0 at the Nelson Spring Break Tournament, defeating Wells (5-0), Liberty (10-0), Estacada (5-0), and Grant (14-3). Junior pitcher Ana Fifita had a standout performance, yielding no runs while striking out 40 batters over 16 innings pitched, enabling Westview to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Wilsonville baseball
The Wildcats capped the week with a 5-0 performance, bringing their season tally to 7-0. They secured a close home victory over Grants Pass (4-3) and followed it up with wins against Willamette (13-7), Caldera (7-5), McNary (9-2), and Putnam (11-1) at the Volcanoes Spring Break Tournament hosted at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer
