Continuing their noteworthy week, the Los Angeles Lakers, who are on a winning streak, will be facing the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.
Just two days after achieving their highest scoring game since 1987 with a 150-145 victory over the Indiana Pacers, the Lakers mounted a remarkable comeback from a 19-point deficit in the fourth quarter to upset the Milwaukee Bucks 128-124 in double overtime on Tuesday.
Despite the absence of LeBron James, who was sidelined due to a left ankle injury, the Lakers (40-32) displayed an impressive performance.
In James’ stead, Anthony Davis excelled with 34 points and 23 rebounds; Austin Reaves contributed 29 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists; while D’Angelo Russell showcased his skills with 29 points and 12 assists.
Not until Spencer Dinwiddie‘s clutch 3-pointer in the first overtime did the Lakers take the lead at 111-108.
Russell’s two free throws extended the game into a second overtime, where the Lakers ultimately secured the victory.
“High-level basketball,” Davis said. “It was a fun game, a great game. Two teams competing. We know where we’re trying to get to and where we are in the standings. We’ve got to control what we can control, and that’s taking it one game at a time.”
Heading into the final stretch of the regular season, the Lakers currently occupy the ninth spot in the Western Conference standings. If the season concluded today, they would face the Golden State Warriors in a play-in game for the 9th versus 10th spot, a rematch of last year’s Western Conference semifinals.
When the Lakers battle Memphis on Wednesday, they will face the challenge of back-to-back games, with key players like Davis, Russell, and Reaves logging significant minutes in the previous game. However, James is expected to make a return against the Grizzlies.
In contrast to the Lakers, Memphis (24-48) has had more rest recently, having played only one game in the past four days.
Memphis suffered a convincing 128-103 loss against Denver on Monday, trailing behind the Nuggets throughout the game.
Despite reducing the 25-point halftime deficit to 15 in the third quarter, the Grizzlies could not close the gap further.
“Obviously, we’ve fallen quite a bit throughout this season, but the spirit of the group has been great,” Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins said. “The dialogue has been great on what we can build on for the rest of the season and going into next year.”
Looking ahead, the Grizzlies are anticipating the return of Brandon Clarke, a key asset from their successful seasons in the past couple of years, who has been sidelined due to injury.
Clarke, who has been sidelined since last March with a torn left Achilles tendon, is on track to make his season debut and is listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Lakers.

Wolves C Rudy Gobert (Personal) Uncertain for Game 2
The Impact of Rudy Gobert's Absence Against the Nuggets in Game 2
Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.
In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.
Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.
Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.
If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
