Two teams striving to steer clear of the play-in tournament clash on Saturday night as the New York Knicks pay a visit to the Sacramento Kings.

With both the Knicks (39-27) and the Kings (38-27) on a two-game winning streak, they are racing towards reaching the 40-win milestone in their first encounter of the remaining regular season month.

The two teams will face off once again on April 4 in New York.

In a traditional showdown of strong defense versus potent offense, the Knicks have been exceptional defensively in recent games. They managed to limit three consecutive opponents to fewer than 80 points before conceding 93 points in a 12-point victory against Portland on Thursday, kicking off their ongoing four-game road trip.

During this four-game stretch, New York has allowed an average of 81.3 points per game, which is nearly 27 points below their season average of 108.1 points conceded, ranking them second in the league behind the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers (twice), and Trail Blazers collectively shot a mere 37.8 percent from the field and 27.9 percent from beyond the arc during this period.

Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau expressed his pride in his team’s ability to revive some of the glory days of New York basketball.

“The thing is, 20 years ago that really was the style of play,” he said of the suffocating defensive style. “To be able to do it in today’s game, it’s a credit to the team. You have to be tied together and you have to be working together and you have to be able to count on each other.”

“That’s the way our team is playing, and we’ve had to use that most of the year when you’re down players.”

At the commencement of their road trip, the Knicks were still without Julius Randle (shoulder) and Mitchell Robinson (ankle) due to injuries. Meanwhile, OG Anunoby, who returned from right elbow surgery, contributed 12 points and nine rebounds in the game against Portland.

Jalen Brunson took charge offensively against the Trail Blazers, scoring 45 points, while no other Knick managed to score more than 12.

The Kings enter the match having scored 120 points or more in four of their last five games.

Sacramento has secured victory in their last seven games when scoring above 110 points and suffered defeat in their last four games when failing to reach this mark.

In their home victory against the Los Angeles Lakers with a score of 120-107, the Kings already had 111 points with over four minutes remaining. Their offensive display was even more impressive in a dominating 129-94 win over the Milwaukee Bucks the previous night.

Sacramento shot over 50 percent from the field in both games and maintained at least a 45 percent success rate from beyond the three-point line.

The Kings also managed to limit the Bucks to 36.6 percent shooting from the field and 17.9 percent from three-point range. Additionally, they effectively restricted the Lakers to just seven offensive rebounds throughout the game.

“A lot of what we do offensively is fueled by our defense,” De’Aaron Fox said. “As long as our defense is like that, I think we’re in a great position.”

Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.

In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.

Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.

Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.

If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
