Klay Thompson tallies 28 to guide Warriors beyond Blazers

Klay Thompson recorded 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting, steering the Golden State Warriors to a 118-114 win against the host Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night.
Andrew Wiggins contributed 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting off the bench as Golden State secured consecutive victories for the first time since Nov. 1 and 3. The triumph marked only their sixth win in the last 18 games. Trayce Jackson-Davis racked up 14 points and Jonathan Kuminga chipped in 12 for Golden State, which has now defeated the Trail Blazers in eight of their last nine matchups.
Golden State’s star Stephen Curry struggled, scoring just seven points and missing all eight of his 3-point attempts, thus ending his NBA record of 268 consecutive games with at least one 3-pointer. He shot 2 of 12 overall. Jerami Grant led Portland with 30 points, but the team suffered its seventh consecutive loss. Anfernee Simons rebounded from a scoreless first half to contribute 24 points.
Scoot Henderson tallied 14 points, Shaedon Sharpe scored 12, and Toumani Camara added 11 for the Trail Blazers. Despite never leading in the game, Portland trailed 113-111 after Sharpe completed a three-point play with 39.1 seconds left.
Golden State’s Chris Paul responded with a 12-foot baseline jumper, extending the lead to four points with 20.9 seconds to go. Simons managed a three-point play, reducing the Trail Blazers’ deficit to one with 14.7 seconds remaining. Curry split two free throws with six seconds left. Deandre Ayton grabbed the rebound and passed to Sharpe, who was charged with a foul after colliding with Golden State’s Brandin Podziemski with 0.6 seconds left.
Podziemski then made two free throws with 0.3 seconds remaining, securing the win as the Warriors ended a seven-game road losing streak. Thompson scored on a layup to initiate an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter, propelling Golden State to a 104-93 advantage. Jackson-Davis ended the run with a dunk, putting the Warriors ahead by 13 with 5:11 left.
The Warriors shot 52.9% from the field, including 13 of 38 from 3-point range. Portland made 47.1% of its shots and connected on 13 of 35 from behind the arc. Golden State held a 16-point lead at halftime before Thompson scored the team’s first eight points of the third quarter, expanding their lead to 73-51.
The Trail Blazers mounted a rally, scoring 31 of the next 40 points to erase the 22-point deficit. Matisse Thybulle’s 3-pointer tied the game at 82 with 2:14 remaining in the third quarter. However, Golden State closed out the quarter with seven of the final nine points, taking an 89-84 lead.

Wolves C Rudy Gobert (Personal) Uncertain for Game 2
The Impact of Rudy Gobert's Absence Against the Nuggets in Game 2
Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.
In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.
Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.
Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.
If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
