Jalen Williams Hits Late Shot to Lift Thunder Past Blazers

Jalen Williams sank a game-winning jump shot with only two seconds left, propelling the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 111-109 victory over the visiting Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday.
Following the ejection of Portland coach Chauncey Billups, which helped the Thunder to tie the game moments before, Williams elegantly pulled up for a jump shot from about 18 feet away.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander intercepted the Blazers’ attempted lob at the basket as the buzzer went off, securing Oklahoma City’s third consecutive win and their seventh straight at home.
Gilgeous-Alexander led Oklahoma City with 33 points and 10 assists, despite having some difficulties, shooting 10 of 24 from the field and missing a season-high four free throws. Williams finished with 19 points.
The teams exchanged fruitless possessions in the final 1:34 after Anfernee Simons leveled the score with a free throw, before Simons nailed a long 3-pointer with 30 seconds remaining, putting the Blazers in a 109-106 lead.
Williams answered with a jump shot in the following possession before Portland lost its cool. Simons was penalized for a double-dribble with 15.6 seconds remaining as Billups attempted to call a timeout.
Billups contended that he should have been granted a timeout and was swiftly handed a technical foul. Shortly after, Billups received another foul and was ejected.
Gilgeous-Alexander missed the first free throw but made the second, leveling the game.
Oklahoma City had dominated its first two encounters with Portland, winning by an average of more than 52 points, including a record-breaking 62-point victory over the Blazers in their last encounter on Jan. 11.
However, this game was anything but easy for the Thunder. After trailing by as much as 13 in the first quarter, Portland made a strong comeback in the second, outscoring Oklahoma City 38-20 to enter halftime with an eight-point advantage.
They achieved this by intensifying their defense, scoring 14 points in the quarter from the Thunder’s seven turnovers.
The Blazers only managed to score 43 points in the second half, marking their sixth loss in the last eight games.
Scoot Henderson led Portland with 19 points off the bench. Oklahoma City shot only 64.3 percent from the free-throw line, the lowest percentage they have recorded this season.

The Impact of Rudy Gobert's Absence Against the Nuggets in Game 2
Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.
In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.
Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.
Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.
If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
