Jalen Brunson Propels Knicks to Victory Over Wizards

Jalen Brunson GOES OFF For 41 PTS

Jalen Brunson dominated with 41 points, with 20 of those coming in the final quarter, propelling the New York Knicks to a 113-109 victory over the Washington Wizards on Thursday.

Brunson converted 14 of 27 shots from the field and 11 of 13 from the free-throw line. He also contributed eight rebounds and eight assists in the Knicks’ complete sweep of their three-game season series against the Wizards.

New York previously secured a 120-99 win over Washington on Nov. 17 with Brunson scoring 32 points and a 121-105 victory on Jan. 6 with him adding 33.

Julius Randle posted 21 points and eight rebounds, while Donte DiVincenzo hit five 3-pointers, accumulating a total of 19 points alongside OG Anunoby.

Isaiah Hartenstein grabbed 17 rebounds for the Knicks, who have emerged victorious in eight of their last 10 games overall.

As for the Wizards, Jordan Poole scored 24 points, but his efforts could not prevent them from suffering their eighth loss in the last nine games.

Marvin Bagley III, in his first game with the Wizards after being acquired from the Detroit Pistons, contributed 20 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks. The Wizards faced the absence of Daniel Gafford, who was sidelined due to a concussion.

Starting slowly in the second half of a back-to-back engagement, New York found their rhythm after the break.

DiVincenzo’s back-to-back 3-pointers, a three-point play from Brunson, and a dunk from Precious Achiuwa propelled the Knicks to an 84-75 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Although Landry Shamet‘s consecutive 3-pointers brought Washington within one, Brunson’s performance kept the Wizards at bay.

He secured a three-point play to conclude an 11-point run and scored three free throws along with a short basket to push New York to a 100-95 lead with 2:27 left on the clock.

Randle’s 3-pointer extended the Knicks’ lead to 108-99 with 58.7 seconds remaining.

Poole’s five free throws reduced the deficit for the Wizards to four, but it was not enough as Randle made a free throw and Anunoby and DiVincenzo added two more each to secure the victory.

Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.

Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.
