Jalen Johnson put up 26 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists to drive the visiting Atlanta Hawks to a 116-100 win over the depleted New York Knicks on Tuesday.

Johnson nailed 12 of 17 shots from the field, just missing his career high by two points, which was achieved during Atlanta’s 141-138 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Jan. 3.

De’Andre Hunter scored 22 points coming off the bench, and Dejounte Murray racked up 21 points, nine rebounds, and six assists for the Hawks, breaking a two-game losing streak.

Atlanta’s Saddiq Bey contributed 17 points and nine rebounds, while Clint Capela added 13 points and nine rebounds, respectively.

The Hawks capitalized on a 51-40 rebounding advantage and a 56-40 lead in points scored in the paint to prevent the Knicks from sweeping the season series in three games. New York suffered its third loss in four games.

Donte DiVincenzo of New York scored 21 points, with Bojan Bogdanovic adding 19 off the bench. Precious Achiuwa pitched in 15 points, and Josh Hart contributed 14 points along with eight rebounds for the shorthanded Knicks, missing Jalen Brunson (left knee contusion), OG Anunoby (right elbow surgery), Julius Randle (dislocated right shoulder), and Mitchell Robinson (left ankle surgery).

New York bounced back from a 22-point deficit early on, scoring seven consecutive points to level the game at 76-76 in the third quarter before Atlanta regained control. A layup by Trent Forrest, a jumper by Johnson, and a 3-pointer by Bogdanovic capped off a 7-2 run to close the third quarter.

Hart hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the Hawks’ lead to 95-91 with 6:27 left in the final quarter. Nevertheless, Murray’s 3-pointer, along with two baskets, and Capela’s three free throws and two field goals highlighted Atlanta’s 21-9 run to seal the victory.

Atlanta dominated the first quarter with a 33-15 lead and extended it to 42-20 early in the second quarter following a 3-pointer by Hunter. New York, however, reduced the deficit by half with a 30-19 run to close out the first half.

Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.

In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.

Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.

Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.

If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
