Damian Lillard, the guard from the Milwaukee Bucks, amassed 39 points and sank 11 3-pointers to guide the Eastern Conference to a groundbreaking 211-186 victory over the Western Conference in the NBA All-Star Game held on Sunday night in Indianapolis.
Lillard, at the age of 33, clinched the title of NBA All-Star Game MVP for the first time based on his outstanding performance.
The Eastern Conference shattered the previous record for the highest score by a team in an All-Star Game. The previous record stood at 196 points, achieved by the late Kobe Bryant and the Western Conference during the 2016 edition of the All-Star Game.
Contributing to the Eastern Conference’s victory, Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics racked up 36 points with an impressive 15-for-23 shooting accuracy.
On the other hand, Tyrese Haliburton, the guard from the Indiana Pacers, delighted the audience by finishing the game with 32 points on an 11-for-15 shooting performance on his home court.
Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves led the Western Conference with a notable 50 points on 23-for-35 shooting. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder scored 31 points on an efficient 12-for-16 shooting, including hitting 7 of 10 shots from the 3-point range.
The match was characterized by a flurry of 3-pointers and dynamic dunks, with both teams showing minimal emphasis on defensive strategies.
The Eastern Conference demonstrated an impressive shooting accuracy of 56.8 percent (83-for-146) from the field and 43.3 percent (42-for-97) from long-range.
On the flip side, the Western Conference managed a shooting accuracy of 55.9 percent (80-for-143) overall and 35.2 percent (25-for-71) from beyond the arc.
LeBron James made history by participating in his 20th All-Star Game, surpassing the record of 19 selections previously held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, another legendary player from the Los Angeles Lakers.
However, despite this significant career milestone, James’ performance on the court was not one to be remembered. He managed to score only 8 points on 4-for-10 shooting and missed all three of his 3-point attempts.
At halftime, the Eastern Conference was leading 104-89. Lillard already had 22 points in the bank, inclusive of six successful shots from the 3-point line, aiding his team in securing a 15-point advantage.
Lillard carried forward his momentum into the second half, displaying a stellar performance. In the course of the third quarter, he nailed a shot from halfcourt, extending the lead to 132-105. His shot sailed smoothly through the net, prompting him to stretch his arms out to their full capacity while striding back towards the defensive end of the court.
Consistency was the key as the Eastern Conference managed to score over 50 points in each quarter of the game.
The Western Conference, on the other hand, scored 47 points in the first quarter, 42 in the second, 47 in the third, and finally 50 in the fourth.

Wolves C Rudy Gobert (Personal) Uncertain for Game 2
The Impact of Rudy Gobert's Absence Against the Nuggets in Game 2
Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.
In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.
Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.
Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.
If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
