Draymond Green Begins 3-Week League-Mandated Counseling

According to The Athletic, Draymond Green, the Warriors forward, has started the league-mandated counseling and is likely to be sidelined for at least three weeks.

The terms of the suspension were determined through collaboration between the Golden State team and Green with the NBA, as revealed by the team’s general manager, Mike Dunleavy. The statement from the NBA indicated that Green must fulfill “specific conditions established by the league and the team” before being cleared to resume playing.

During a meeting between Dunleavy, Green’s agent, Rich Paul, and Green, various counseling options were discussed.”We recognize that there is a consequence that needs to be addressed, but our focus is also on providing support to an individual,” remarked Dunleavy. “They were fully in agreement, including Draymond.”

Green contends that the arm movement resulting in the contact with Nurkic’s face and leading to his ejection on Tuesday was unintentional. The ejection occurred when Green delivered an uncontrolled open-hand blow to Nurkic, who was defensively engaging with Green.

Having his hand on Green’s hip, when Green suddenly turned and struck him, Nurkic was knocked to the floor, and a foul was called on Green with 8:23 remaining in the third quarter.

This ejection marked the third for Green in the current season. Also, on Nov. 14, he was ejected for restraining Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert in a headlock during an on-court altercation.

As a result, Green faced a suspension of five games. His initial ejection of the season happened on Nov. 11 when he received two technical fouls while playing against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.

Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.

Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.

If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
