A total of five players from New Orleans contributed double-digit scores, with Herbert Jones Jr. leading the way with 17 points as the Pelicans secured a 96-87 victory against the faltering Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night.
In addition to Jones’ performance, Brandon Ingram tallied 16 points, Zion Williamson contributed 14, CJ McCollum added 11, and Jose Alvarado chipped in with 10 points, aiding the Pelicans in achieving a 3-1 record during their recent away games.
Leading the charge for the injury-ridden Grizzlies was Jaren Jackson Jr., who managed to score 22 points, although their losing streak extended to a distressing nine consecutive games. Luke Kennard and Vince Williams Jr. both scored 12 points, Yuta Watanabe contributed 11 points, and Lamar Stevens recorded 10 points.
New Orleans started the third quarter with a 12-3 burst, spearheaded by a basket and two assists from Ingram, leading to a commanding 73-50 advantage.
Despite the Pelican’s lead expanding to a maximum of 25 points, a resurgence led by Stevens saw Memphis narrowing the gap. His three consecutive baskets initiated a 15-4 surge that reduced the deficit to 86-73 by the close of the third quarter.
Watanabe’s trio of field goals initiated an 8-2 push, bringing the Grizzlies to within 88-81 at the start of the final quarter.
Following two successful free throws from Jones, Jackson registered back-to-back field goals, cutting the deficit for the Grizzlies to 90-85.
Despite closing the gap to just five points once more, a crucial basket from Ingram and an assist to Larry Nance Jr. extended the Pelicans’ lead to 96-87 with 33 seconds remaining.
The game witnessed three ties before Jackson’s 3-pointer and subsequent three-point play boosted the Grizzlies to a 16-8 lead.
Following a scoring drought of almost 3 1/2 minutes for the Pelicans, McCollum’s jumper broke the spell. Alvarado sank two 3-pointers, while Trey Murphy III and Nance each added one, guiding New Orleans to a 31-26 lead at the close of the first quarter.
Williamson’s three-point play and another field goal extended the Pelicans’ lead to 10 points just over two minutes into the second quarter.
Although the Grizzlies narrowed the gap to one point after Williams’ successful three-point play, Ingram’s two 3-pointers and McCollum’s additional shot during a 15-0 run propelled New Orleans to a 16-point lead, culminating in a 61-47 halftime advantage.

Wolves C Rudy Gobert (Personal) Uncertain for Game 2
The Impact of Rudy Gobert's Absence Against the Nuggets in Game 2
Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.
In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.
Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.
Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.
If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
