Following a disappointing stretch on their journey out west, the Philadelphia 76ers are back on familiar ground to take on the Los Angeles Clippers this Wednesday.
The lone triumph for the Sixers during their travels came against the Clippers with a 121-107 victory last Sunday.
On Monday, the Sixers (39-33) suffered a 108-96 defeat at the hands of the Sacramento Kings.
Tyrese Maxey led the charge with 29 points, showcasing 21 in a dazzling first quarter. Tobias Harris chipped in with 12, while Ricky Council IV and D.J. Wilson contributed 10 each.
Wilson was signed to a 10-day contract on Sunday.
“He was excellent,” Sixers coach Nick Nurse said of Wilson. “He played a long stretch there and obviously played very well. I thought he did just about everything right.”
Maxey managed only three points in the latter half of the game.
“They started blitzing everything with him,” Nurse said of how the Kings guarded Maxey. “We didn’t do a great job of taking advantage of that. We’ve been really good at it lately and tonight we weren’t as good.”
Buddy Hield missed all six attempts from beyond the arc and sustained an ankle injury in the final quarter. Reports suggest that X-rays yielded negative results, and his availability for Wednesday is uncertain.
The Sixers were also without Joel Embiid, Robert Covington, De’Anthony Melton, and Kelly Oubre Jr.
Maxey went 5 of 7 from long-range while the remainder of the team only managed 6 of 27.
With numerous players sidelined due to injuries, the makeshift Sixers squad must discover ways to rack up wins in order to steer clear of the play-in phase in the Eastern Conference.
Currently occupying the eighth spot, the Sixers trail the Miami Heat by a half-game for the seventh position. The top six teams secure automatic playoff berths without facing the play-in challenge.
The Clippers will land in Philadelphia on a two-game losing skid.
Following their loss to the Sixers, Los Angeles (44-27) suffered a 133-116 defeat against the Indiana Pacers on Monday.
Kawhi Leonard and Paul George notched 26 points each with Norman Powell adding 22. Russell Westbrook contributed 14 points while James Harden managed 11. Westbrook returned after being sidelined for 12 games due to a fractured left hand.
“I thought Russ looked good,” Clippers coach Tyronn Lue said. “I thought he had some pop. I thought he pushed the pace. It’s something for us to build on going forward.”
Anticipate Harden receiving a barrage of jeers as he squares off against his former team. Harden was traded to the Clippers from the Sixers last autumn.
“Right now, do we have an identity?” Lue pondered. “I think, yeah, we’re soft. That can be an identity if you want to call it that. We got to be tougher, mentally and physically.”
Since ascending to the top seed in the Western Conference on February 6, the Clippers have endured a 10-12 record.
“You don’t point fingers, you don’t point blame,” Westbrook said. “Each individual, I think we got to look within, look within ourselves, and figure out how we can better help our team. I think that’s where we start, we start with ourselves. I start with myself.”
“And then come together collectively and figure out how we now bring what we all have and bring to the table.”
The Clippers attempted a season-low 20 shots from beyond the arc against the Pacers, netting only six of them.

Wolves C Rudy Gobert (Personal) Uncertain for Game 2
The Impact of Rudy Gobert's Absence Against the Nuggets in Game 2
Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.
In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.
Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.
Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.
If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
