Dean Wade registered 23 points and Jarrett Allen concluded with 21 points and 12 rebounds to aid the depleted Cleveland Cavaliers in conquering a 22-point, fourth-quarter shortfall and upsetting the visiting Boston Celtics 105-104 on Tuesday night.

The Celtics were trailing by a single point when a foul was called on Darius Garland of Cleveland against Jayson Tatum with only 0.7 seconds remaining, but the Cavaliers decided to contest the call and it was reversed. This defeat put an end to Boston’s run of 11 consecutive victories and their streak of eight consecutive road wins.

Cleveland grabbed a 105-104 lead with a powerful dunk by Wade with 19.1 seconds left. The Cavaliers outplayed the Celtics 34-17 in the final quarter.

Tatum contributed 26 points and 13 rebounds. Boston also received 24 points and nine rebounds from Kristaps Porzingis and 21 points from Jaylen Brown.

The Cavaliers were missing their top scorer, Donovan Mitchell, who had been sidelined for the third consecutive game due to a bruised left knee. Mitchell, who is anticipated to sit out at least two more games, is averaging 28.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and a career-best 6.2 assists per game this season.

Max Strus of Cleveland was also forced to sit out late due to a knee injury.

Garland and Isaac Okoro each contributed 16 points. Garland also accumulated 11 assists.

Cleveland had an initial 9-6 lead, but Boston surged ahead by scoring the following 14 points to establish a 20-9 lead. The Celtics were ahead 33-25 after the first quarter and held a 55-45 lead at halftime.

Tatum was the top scorer with 22 points in the first half, during which he also secured eight rebounds. Tatum made 7 of 9 field goal attempts in the half, including five successful 3-point attempts. The Cavaliers shot 32.1 percent from the field in the first two quarters (17 of 53).

Cleveland closed the gap to four after Garland completed a 7-0 sequence with a 3-pointer that reduced Boston’s lead to 69-65 with 5:02 remaining in the third quarter, but the Celtics outscored the Cavaliers 18-6 for the remainder of the period and entered the fourth with an 87-71 advantage.
