Lately, the Cleveland Cavaliers have faced some challenges, but they cracked the code against the Charlotte Hornets.

Now the key is to duplicate their success.

These two teams will go head-to-head for the second time in three nights on Wednesday in Charlotte.

With the postseason looming just a few weeks away, the Cavaliers (44-28) are striving to find their rhythm.

“The most important thing for us is to be healthy,” Cleveland coach J.B. Bickerstaff said. “Our focus right now with the group that we have is that we continue to just pay attention to our habits.”

Cleveland put an end to a three-game losing streak with a decisive 115-92 victory on Monday night. Bickerstaff was not surprised by this outcome, as he has maintained unwavering faith in the team.

“I’m not going to take away from what our guys have done to get us to this point,” he said.

Even though no Cleveland player has scored 20 points in the last three games, it doesn’t seem to be a significant concern.

“Their defense is terrific,” Charlotte coach Steve Clifford said. “That’s their calling card.”

The struggling Hornets (17-54), currently on a five-game losing streak, are coming off a winless 0-4 road trip. Simply returning to their home court could provide a much-needed boost.

Wednesday’s game follows a stretch where Charlotte played 13 of their last 17 games on the road.

“We’ve got to get refreshed,” Clifford said. “We’ve played two really tired games. We need to get home and get refreshed and try to finish on a high note.”

Challenging the Cavaliers in the post and under the basket poses a significant obstacle.

“With all their size, you got to make the right play,” Clifford said. “They’re great defensively with a lot of length and very disciplined. They protect the paint.”

The Cavaliers are showcasing intense play, even though it has led to some challenges. Forward Marcus Morris Sr. was ejected from Monday’s game due to a hard foul on Hornets center Nick Richards.

“I’m just trying to set the tone,” Morris said of bringing energy and aggressiveness. “We’re going to need that. I just want to keep being tough.”

Cavaliers forward Evan Mobley acknowledged the urgency of ramping up their performance before the playoffs commence.

“We had a bounce-back game and I felt like everyone felt good,” Mobley said. “We’ve got to play with that joy.”

In Monday’s game, the score remained tight until the Cavaliers began executing their offense more efficiently.

“Their cutting baskets, just one-on-one stuff,” Clifford said. “The cutting stuff, the body position off the ball, they did a good job.”

Rookie Brandon Miller led the Hornets with 24 points. Despite nearing the end of his debut NBA season, Miller continues to deliver strong performances, scoring 20 or more points in five of Charlotte’s 11 games this month.

“He’s really scoring in every way,” Clifford said of Miller. “He’s very explosive.”

Miller went 5-for-5 on free throws in Monday’s game, matching his highest number of free throw attempts in a 16-game span.

In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.

Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.

Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.
