This week’s Top 25 national high school softball rankings showcase significant shifts, with the defending national champions making a strong return to the upper echelon.
Orange Beach (Ala.) has surged back to the No. 3 spot after claiming the Kissimmee Klassic championship last week. The Makos achieved a perfect 4-0 record, defeating multiple ranked opponents, including the previous No. 2, Doral Academy (Doral, Fla.), and No. 16 Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) in a close 3-2 finale. Auburn commit Daigle Wilson put on an impressive display throughout the tournament, tallying nine hits across 14 at-bats.
Rosary Academy (Fullerton, Calif.) entered the Top 25 after winning the Michelle Carew Classic, where they bested Orange Lutheran (Orange) 8-4 in the title match. Sophomore Hailey Huerta had a standout game, going 4-for-4 and contributing significantly to the team’s offensive onslaught, which amassed a total of 37 runs over five matches.
Orange Lutheran made it to the finals by edging out Norco 1-0 in the semifinals. Norco concluded the tournament with a 4-1 record, including a 5-1 victory against Saint Francis (Mountain View). The competition for California’s top position promises to be intense throughout the season.
This week also saw the introduction of three other teams into the rankings. Curry (Jasper, Ala.) is on fire with a 27-game winning streak, spearheaded by Ambrey Taylor, an Alabama commit who has amassed 59 career home runs, including 11 this season.
Lincoln-Way Central (New Lenox, Ill.) is off to a flawless 6-0 start. Their ace right-handed pitcher Lisabella Dimitrijevic hasn’t given up an earned run thus far. The Florida State commit has recorded 69 strikeouts in 28 innings and boasts a remarkable 840 strikeouts throughout her high school career.
Meanwhile, in Wisconsin, Kenosha Bradford (Kenosha) has picked up where it left off the previous season. The reigning Division 1 state champions have outscored their initial two opponents 22-0, with State Player of the Year and Central Michigan commit Aubrey Strelow back in action for the Red Devils.
