As the 2024-25 high school girls basketball season approaches its conclusion with state playoffs, national championship hopefuls focus on the outcome of the postseason national invitational tournaments – and we’re keeping a close eye.
Leading the charge is No. 1 Montverde Academy of Florida.
The Eagles are among four teams slated to compete in the Chipotle Nationals, scheduled for April 4-5 in Fishers, Indiana.
Should the three-time defending tournament champions defeat Faith Family of Texas and then overcome the winner of the IMG Academy-Westtown matchup in the finals, they’ll secure yet another national championship.
If Montverde Academy falters, could it be Bishop McNamara, the reigning national champion Etiwanda, or another team making the strongest case for the new national title?
The girls basketball rankings spotlight teams that are affiliated with their respective state high school athletic associations or those permitted to compete against affiliate high schools in their home state, as well as some elite prep schools and basketball academies from across the country.
Below is a comprehensive overview of the latest Power 25 national girls basketball rankings.
National Girls Basketball Power 25 Rankings
1. Montverde Academy (Fla.)
2024-25 record: 25-1
Reminiscent of two seasons ago when the Eagles had to dominate the Chipotle Nationals to fend off Etiwanda for the national crown.
2. Bishop McNamara (Md.)
2024-25 record: 29-1
Captured their fourth WCAC Championship in late February with a title-game victory over Bishop Ireton, followed by consecutive MPSSBT titles in March. The team boasts 12 wins against top-40 programs this winter.
3. Etiwanda (Calif.)
2024-25 record: 28-5
Once the Eagles regained their health, they took flight. Despite being three-time CIF Open Division champs, they remain behind Bishop McNamara due to an early playoff exit against Ontario Christian.
4. Ontario Christian (Calif.)
2024-25 record: 30-2
Secured two victories over Etiwanda and had a split against Archbishop Mitty. However, their loss to Etiwanda in the CIF SoCal Open Division finals may hinder their national title aspirations.
5. Morris Catholic (NJ)
2024-25 record: 28-0
Winning three consecutive New Jersey Parochial Class B championships is a cherry on top for this remarkable season, but is it sufficient to claim the national title? Dominant victories at “The Throne” would certainly bolster their case.
6. Bradley Central (Tenn.)
2024-25 record: 36-1
With junior 2,000-point scorer Kimora Fields and a robust roster of eight seniors, they clinched their third consecutive Tennessee Class 4A championship, and there’s still a chance to break into the top five.
7. Mater Dei (Calif.)
2024-25 record: 29-4
They are the only team to hand No. 2 Bishop McNamara a loss. All four of the Monarchs’ defeats have come against prominent California rivals: Etiwanda (twice in CIF playoffs), Ontario Christian, and a fully staffed Mitty.
8. IMG Academy (Fla.)
2024-25 record: 17-4
The Ascenders are positioned as a national contender, playing competitively in numerous tight matches. However, their most significant victory came against a less-than-full-strength Long Island Lutheran team that is also heading to Chipotle Nationals.
9. Princess Anne (Va.)
2024-25 record: 28-0
They are the most significant climbers in the rankings, jumping up five spots. This is attributed to their one loss, a single-digit defeat, amidst a schedule that has featured 16 wins by 40 or more points.
10. Sierra Canyon (Calif.)
2024-25 record: 28-3
Despite two solid defeats to Ontario Christian, including one in overtime that concluded their season, the Trailblazers remain competitive in the top 10 rankings, right where they should be.
11. Johnston (Iowa)
2024-25 record: 26-0
The Dragons continue their winning momentum in a basketball-enthused state, overcoming Dowling Catholic for a third consecutive time (55-44) to secure back-to-back Iowa Class 5A championships. Currently, they are riding a remarkable 52-game winning streak.
12. Sidwell Friends (DC)
2024-25 record: 27-3
Following defeats to Bullis during January and February, the Quakers hit their stride late in the season, winning the last eight games. Their impressive streak included victories over Long Island Lutheran, Bullis, and St. John’s, culminating in the DCSAA championship.
13. Clackamas (Ore.)
2024-25 record: 32-3
A heartbreaking conclusion to a historic season for the Cavaliers as they squandered a 19-point lead in the second half, ultimately losing to Tualatin in the Oregon Class 6A championship match, which marked the end of their 30-game winning streak.
14. Archbishop Mitty (Calif.)
2024-25 record: 27-4
Some regard this season as one of Sue Phillips’ finest coaching performances, given the loss of standout player McKenna Woliczko (due to a knee injury) in January. They repeated as CIF NorCal Open Division champions but fell short against Etiwanda in the state finals.
15. Westtown (Pa.)
2024-25 record: 27-3
The team secured their fourth consecutive PAISAA championship with an impressive 71-47 victory over Friends’ Central School, and they could potentially make their way into the top 10 with a strong performance at the Chipotle Nationals in April.
16. Hamilton Southeastern (Ind.)
2024-25 record: 27-1
The only loss for this season came as an upset against Warsaw in the Indiana Class 4A semifinals, where they were unable to maintain a fourth-quarter lead. Star player Maya Makalusky concluded her career with an impressive 1,933 points, averaging 22.1 points per game in her senior year.
17. Putnam City North (Okla.)
2024-25 record: 29-1

18. Bishop Ireton (Va.)
2024-25 record: 28-6

24. Long Island Lutheran (NY)
2024-25 record: 18-5
