As we approach the final week of February in Wisconsin high school boys basketball, the race for the playoffs heats up. This week has seen numerous upsets that have significantly impacted the rankings, paving the way for some surprise contenders.

Wisconsin High School Boys Basketball Rankings: Feb. 23
1. Milwaukee Academy of Science (17-1)
Previous rank: 1st
The Novas had a week off, providing them with some much-needed rest ahead of their upcoming game against Arrowhead (Feb. 25).
2. De Pere (22-1)
Previous rank: 2nd
The Redbirds have extended their winning streak to 18 games following victories over Manitowoc Lincoln (61-39) and Pewaukee (78-73). Their next challenge is at Notre Dame on Feb. 27.
3. Kettle Moraine (23-0)
Previous rank: 3rd
The Lasers improved to 21-0 after securing wins against Mukwonago (74-46) and Waukesha West (72-53). They will next face the Blackshirts from Waukesha South (Feb. 27).
4. Wisconsin Lutheran (21-2)
Previous rank: 4th
After bouncing back from a loss to West Allis Central, the Vikings are back on a winning path, having claimed three consecutive victories, including wins over Pewaukee (68-50) and New Berlin Eisenhower (82-54). They’ll look to extend their streak to four against Greenfield (Feb. 26).
5. Kaukauna (20-3)
Previous rank: 5th
The Ghosts were on a roll this week, winning against Appleton North (66-56) and finishing off with a strong performance versus Kimberly (98-79). They’re set to take on Fond du Lac next (Feb. 27).
6. Mount Horeb (20-2)
Previous rank: 6th
Following two victories this past week, the Vikings have extended their win streak to eight games, defeating McFarland (56-39) and Portage (82-26). They will quickly return to action against Lodi (Feb. 24).
7. Racine Park (21-1)
Previous rank: 7th
The Panthers played just once this week, securing a victory against Kenosha Tremper (96-48). They welcomed a lighter schedule following a demanding three-game stretch prior. Their next matchup is against Kenosha Bradford at home (Feb. 24).
8. Slinger (21-2)
Previous rank: 8th
The Owls entered the week fresh off an upset victory over Nicolet, which propelled them into the rankings while knocking the Knights out of the top 10. This week they played once, winning against West Bend West (66-43). They’ll stay home for their next challenge against Hartford (Feb. 27).
9. Freedom (21-1)
Previous rank: 11th
The Irish showcased a dominant performance against Luxemburg-Casco (81-52) this week, rising to No. 9 in the rankings, thanks in part to losses from Bonduel and Eau Claire Memorial. They’ll aim to keep the momentum going against New London (Feb. 24).
10. West Allis Central (17-5)
Previous rank: 12th
The Bulldogs have surged up the rankings and cracked the Top 10 with their recent success. They remained in West Allis, besting Brown Deer (103-92) and Pewaukee (64-52), marking a four-game win streak that began with their major upset over No. 4 Wisconsin Lutheran last week. They’re set to face Whitnall next (Feb. 26).
11. Roncalli (21-1)

The Jets secured their 17th consecutive win this week, taking on the road twice. They achieved a convincing victory over Chilton (82-36) and pulled off a significant upset against Bonduel (70-47). With these wins, they climb to the No. 11 spot and are looking ahead to Howards Grove (Feb. 24).
12. Eau Claire Memorial (17-4)
Previous rank: 10th
The Old Abes played on both Friday and Saturday last week. They managed to secure a win over Eau Claire North (82-41) but were stunned by Marshfield (54-80), marking the end of their seven-game winning streak. They dropped in the rankings but are eager to regain their momentum against La Crosse Central (Feb. 25).
13. Homestead (18-5)
Previous rank: 15th
The Highlanders extended their winning streak to nine games with a solid victory against Grafton on the road (86-66). They have moved up to No. 13 in the rankings but will need to defend their position quickly with a challenging game against Nicolet approaching (Feb. 27).
14. Greenfield (21-2)
Previous rank: 13th
The Hawks started the week with a surprising home loss to Wisconsin Lutheran (74-82), marking their first defeat of the new year; their previous loss dated back to December 28 against Racine Park. They rebounded two days later with a win over Shorewood (84-57), but a tough challenge awaits with No. 4 Wisconsin Lutheran on the horizon (Feb. 26).
15. Waunakee (18-5)
Previous rank: 14th
The Warriors have experienced a mix of results recently, losing a tightly contested away game to Fort Atkinson (51-54), but bouncing back strong with a home victory over Watertown (71-48). They’re set to face Milton on the road next (Feb. 27).
16. Marshfield (17-5)
Previous rank: 18th
For the second consecutive week, the Tigers faced three opponents. But it hardly made a difference; they clinched their ninth win in a row by defeating Wausau West (59-39), Merrill (53-33), and pulling off an upset against Eau Claire Memorial (80-54). They aim to extend their winning streak when they visit Neenah on the road (Feb. 25).
17. Bonduel (21-1)
Previous rank: 9th
The Bears were once undefeated; that is no longer the case. They dropped significantly in the Top 25 following a tough loss to Roncalli at home (47-70). However, they redeemed themselves somewhat with a victory against Amherst (79-39). Though they’ve lost their undefeated status, they are keen to reshape their identity with a match against Peshtigo (Feb. 24).
18. Nicolet (17-6)
Previous rank: 16th
The Knights had been having a tough time securing victories lately, but this week was a refreshing change. They hosted two games, achieving a 25-point win over Whitefish Bay (86-61) and a 22-point victory against Milwaukee King (78-66). They hope to regain momentum and confidence when they take on a ranked opponent, Homestead, next (Feb. 27).
19. Mineral Point (21-1)
Previous rank: 19th
The Pointers have experienced just one loss this season, a narrow two-point defeat to Southwestern back on Jan. 17. They have since enjoyed eleven consecutive wins, including three this past week. They triumphed over Platteville (91-59), Riverdale (82-30), and Marshall (69-43). Their upcoming game is against New Glarus (Feb. 24).
20. Fond du Lac (17-6)
Previous rank: 17th
The Cardinals extended their winning streak to ten games after a victory against Kimberly (76-66) on Tuesday, but their run came to an end against Oshkosh North on Thursday (80-85). There’s always a chance to initiate a new streak this week, though their next opponent, No. 5 Kaukauna, could pose a challenge (Feb. 27).
21. Appleton North (15-7)

The Lightning kicked off the week with a closely contested loss to Kaukauna (56-66) but recovered later with victories against Appleton East (72-51) and Oconomowoc (56-43). They are set to face West De Pere next (Feb. 25).
22. Aquinas (20-2)

The Blugolds enjoyed a perfect week, securing two wins against Sparta (77-55) and Tomah (60-46). They look ahead to their next challenge against Holmen (Feb. 27).
23. Pewaukee (14-9)
Previous rank: 20th
The Pirates faced a challenging week with three consecutive losses, edging them closer to leaving the Top 25. They remain in the rankings, however, due to the strength and location of the defeats: all were against ranked teams and on the road. They fell to Wisconsin Lutheran (50-68), West Allis Central (52-64), and De Pere (73-78). Their next match also takes them on the road against Milwaukee Lutheran (Feb. 26).
24. Notre Dame (17-5)
Previous rank: 23rd
The Tritons encountered two defeats this week, first losing to Ashwaubenon (60-67) and then Bay Port (52-55). They will have an opportunity to start fresh against Fox Valley Lutheran (Feb. 24).
25. Waterford (20-3)
Previous rank: Unranked
The Wolverines have made their entrance into the Top 25 while riding a six-game winning streak. This week, they triumphed over Mukwonago (72-56) and Union Grove (73-34) to secure their ranking. Their next match against Westosha Central will be a crucial test of their standing (Feb. 27).
