State tournaments are heating up across the nation, drawing significant attention related to the Top 25 high school girls basketball rankings.
In Texas, postseason action reaches the third round this week, as the new format has divided each classification into two divisions. No. 19 Boswell (Fort Worth) and No. 20 Judson (Converse) may be on a collision course for a championship game in the Class 6A Division II bracket.
Boswell has cruised through its first two games and will face off against 34-2 Braswell (Little Elm) on Tuesday in a regional semifinal tilt. Judson, holding a remarkable 36-1 record, will challenge 30-5 Churchill (San Antonio) in its next contest.
In Indiana, the spotlight is on the semi-state matchups for Class 4A, where No. 9 Hamilton Southeastern (Fishers) aims for its first state championship since 2019. The Royals remain undefeated this season and will meet 19-7 Valparaiso on Saturday morning.
The Hoosier State conducts its quarterfinals and semifinals on the same day, meaning if Hamilton Southeastern advances in the morning, they’ll face the winner of 24-1 Warsaw and 24-3 McCutcheon (Lafayette) later that evening. Notably, heavyweight opponents Lawrence Central (Indianapolis) and South Bend Washington (South Bend) were eliminated in regional play.
Over in California, all four Southern Section teams ranked in the Top 25 celebrated victories in their opening pool play games on Saturday and will resume action on Wednesday. However, the real excitement is set for Saturday when No. 1 Ontario Christian (Ontario) goes head-to-head with No. 7 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth), while No. 4 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) faces No. 10 Etiwanda.
The victors of these matchups are likely to compete for the Southern Section Open title, with each team aiming to secure a position in the Southern California Open Division bracket and an opportunity to vie for the state championship on March 15.
