Since their inaugural collaboration in 2022, the Australian menswear label Song For The Mute (SFTM) and adidas have built a formidable partnership, reconnecting multiple times to explore a shared vision rooted in archival and retro designs. As September ushers in the two-year milestone of this creative alliance, SFTM and adidas are set to launch what could very well be their most impressive sneaker capsule to date. Following a refresh of the adidas Shadowturf earlier this year, the duo introduces not one, but three captivating colorways of the adiStar Cushion.

To provide some background, the adiStar Cushion made its debut back in 2005, continuing the legacy of the popular adiStar running line. The sneaker quickly gained traction among both dedicated runners and lifestyle enthusiasts alike during its peak. With the renewed enthusiasm for technical Y2K running styles, the adiStar Cushion made a much-anticipated return to the adidas lineup last year. Building on the momentum, collaborations with brands such as Sporty & Rich and atmos (on the Cushion 3) have marked this model’s resurgence. Now, the upcoming SFTM x adiStar Cushion trio, set to launch on September 19th, signifies another significant step in the model’s revival journey.

The latest collection features three distinct colorways: a striking marsh green and blue, a classic black, white, and gum combination, and a sleek grey option accented with metallic silver overlays. What sets these models apart from standard adiStar Cushions are the luxurious leather stripes (as opposed to standard TPU), an updated mesh toe box for added breathability, and functional pull tabs on the heel that simplify slipping them on. This collaboration continues the tradition of co-branding, showcased by the SFTM x adidas tongue found on previous releases, along with a subtle “SFTM” tag positioned just above the quarter stripes.
