P.J. Washington executed a decisive layup with just 4.5 seconds on the clock, securing a victory for the Dallas Mavericks over the visiting Golden State Warriors with a score of 108-106 on Friday night.

The Mavericks (47-30) surged ahead 105-99 after Kyrie Irving sank a jumper at 1:43 remaining. Despite their efforts, the Warriors (42-35) managed to equalize at 106 following Stephen Curry‘s impressive 17-foot step-back shot with only 13 seconds left.

In the absence of Luka Doncic and with Kyrie Irving heavily guarded, the Mavericks relied on Tim Hardaway Jr. to penetrate the paint and assist Washington in securing the winning basket.

In pursuit of their seventh consecutive victory, the Warriors entrusted Curry with the ball in the final moments. However, tight defense forced him to pass to Chris Paul, who then set up Klay Thompson for a potential game-winning 3-pointer that unfortunately missed the mark.

Washington, shooting 5-for-8 from beyond the perimeter, led the game with 32 points, while Irving contributed 26 for the Mavericks, redeeming themselves from a 104-100 defeat against the Warriors earlier in the week, which had been their sole loss in the last 10 games.

Daniel Gafford showcased an all-around performance with 10 points, 15 rebounds, and three blocks for the Mavericks. Hardaway put up 13 points, and Dante Exum added 11 to secure the victory.

Curry led the Warriors with 28 points, including five successful 3-pointers, while Andrew Wiggins was granted a night off to rest an ankle injury during the second game of a back-to-back match.

Thompson scored 16 points but struggled from beyond the arc, making only 2 of 8 attempts. Gary Payton II and Brandin Podziemski contributed 14 points each for the Warriors, who lost the season series 3-1 to the Mavericks.

Paul added nine points, eight assists, five rebounds, and four steals for the Warriors, while Trayce Jackson-Davis led the team with eight rebounds.

In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.

Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.

Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.

If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
