D’Angelo Russell dominated with a game-high 28 points as the Los Angeles Lakers orchestrated a 19-0 scoring spree in the third quarter to establish a commanding 116-97 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon.

With a pair of free throws by Evan Mobley, Cleveland (46-32) managed to edge ahead to a 73-69 lead with 5:42 remaining in the third quarter.

From that point onwards, Los Angeles (45-33) took control, with Anthony Davis contributing nine points during the crucial streak that granted the Lakers an 88-73 advantage. Georges Niang halted the Lakers’ dominance with a three-pointer at 1:09 left in the quarter, but Los Angeles entered the final quarter with a 90-78 lead.

Throughout the fourth quarter, the Cavaliers remained behind by a minimum of 10 points.

LeBron James (24 points, 12 assists) and Davis (22 points, 13 rebounds) achieved double-doubles for Los Angeles, who secured their ninth win in the last ten games. Taurean Prince added 18 points to the Lakers’ tally.

Darius Garland led Cleveland with 26 points, while Caris LeVert contributed 21 points and seven rebounds, and Jarrett Allen finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Niang also managed to score 12 points.

The Lakers outperformed the Cavaliers in shooting percentage, with 56.2 percent against 43.3 percent.

After being behind by nine at halftime, Cleveland swiftly caught up in less than four minutes, as a three-point shot by Garland leveled the score at 67-all with 8:39 left in the third quarter.

A 6-0 surge later propelled the Cavaliers to a four-point lead, but this advantage was swiftly nullified by the Lakers’ overpowering burst.

Russell put up 10 points, and James contributed nine as the Lakers surged to a 36-33 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Prince then showcased his skills with a pair of three-pointers and a layup during a 15-2 run that propelled the Lakers to a 51-35 lead with 9:11 left in the second quarter.

Following a Russell three-pointer with 4:20 remaining in the quarter, the Lakers were ahead by 14. However, Cleveland responded by scoring the subsequent nine points to narrow the gap to 61-56. Nonetheless, James and Davis quickly restored the Lakers’ dominance with inside scoring to finish the first half with a 65-56 advantage.
