Kyle Kuzma tallied a game-high 32 points and contributed nine rebounds, four assists, and two blocks in a surprising 110-108 victory for the Washington Wizards against the Miami Heat on Sunday night.

This marked the Wizards’ second consecutive win after enduring a 16-game losing streak – tying a franchise record.

Miami, on the other hand, is currently on a three-game losing skid, their worst streak since dropping seven games in a row back in January.

The game witnessed crucial missed 3-point attempts from Duncan Robinson and Jimmy Butler in Miami’s last possession which could have turned the tide in their favor.

Apart from Kuzma’s stellar performance, Washington received notable contributions from Corey Kispert (22 points, six assists), Deni Avdija (16 points, 10 rebounds), and Tyus Jones (12 points, game-high 16 assists).

Jimmy Butler led Miami’s scoring with 23 points, while Bam Adebayo added 16 points along with a game-high 16 rebounds.

Landry Shamet, who was absent in the previous Wizards game due to a calf injury, made a return but remained scoreless in seven minutes of play. Washington was missing Richaun Holmes (toe injury) and Marvin Bagley III (back spasms).

Tyler Herro sat out his eighth consecutive game due to a foot injury for Miami, while Kevin Love missed his sixth straight game also due to a foot injury.

The tightly contested first quarter saw two lead changes and three tie scores ending with Miami holding a slim 27-25 lead. The Heat dominated in paint points (20-12) and second-chance points (8-2).

Miami bolstered their lead to 54-48 by halftime after shooting an impressive 57.1 percent from the field in the second quarter. Adebayo was close to a double-double at halftime with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Washington closed the gap to 82-81 by the end of the third quarter, with Kuzma spearheading the Wizards’ resurgence by scoring 11 points in the quarter.

Kuzma’s clutch 3-pointer with 8:16 remaining in the fourth quarter handed Washington a 91-90 lead, their first since the second half began.

The Wizards pushed their advantage to 110-100 following another Kuzma 3-pointer with 2:45 left. However, the Heat mounted a late rally, scoring eight unanswered points to narrow the deficit to 110-108 with 31.5 seconds remaining.

Despite Kuzma being called for an offensive foul with 12.2 seconds left, Miami failed to capitalize as Robinson and Butler missed crucial 3-pointers in the closing moments of the game.

Washington secured the win by shooting 41.0 percent from beyond the arc, making 16 of 39 attempts from 3-point range.
