Witnessing Jordan Poole come into his own, the Washington Wizards are unveiling his potential after acquiring him from the Golden State Warriors in the off-season.

Having faced defeat in 15 consecutive games, the Wizards require another stellar shooting performance from Poole as they prepare to face the Orlando Magic this Wednesday. Orlando, on the other hand, has clinched victory in four back-to-back matchups and 12 out of the last 15 games.

Playing back-to-back nights, the Magic are coming off a remarkable 101-89 triumph against the Charlotte Hornets, powered by Paolo Banchero‘s 22-point contribution and Wendell Carter Jr.‘s 12 points and nine rebounds.

Despite their current position tied for fourth in the Eastern Conference, Orlando’s success has gone largely unnoticed on the national stage. Magic’s guard, Cole Anthony, remains optimistic that their efforts will soon gain recognition.

“People are starting to slowly but surely catch on,” Anthony said. “There are some good teams in this league, and we are trying to build our way up into those ranks. And I feel like we are well on our way. The hype will come. We just have to keep doing what we’ve got to do.”

Orlando mustn’t underestimate the challenge posed by Washington, currently poised to tie the franchise’s longstanding record for the most consecutive losses, dating back to March 2010.

Struggling to close out games this season, the Wizards suffered a 127-115 loss to the Utah Jazz in their latest encounter. Despite Poole’s 32-point effort and contributions from Kuzma and Jones, Washington faltered in the closing moments, remaining without a field goal for the final 5:21.

“We’re a young team, so we’re still figuring out when to pick and choose our spots … to feel the flow of the game and then when to slow it down, when to get into a set and try to figure out what shot we want,” Poole said.

Struggling with his shooting earlier in the season, Poole’s shift to a reserve role on February 22 has seen a remarkable rise in his scoring average, showcasing an impressive 23.4 points over seven bench appearances compared to 15.6 when starting.

Washington interim coach Brian Keefe said, “We told him that we want (him) to be aggressive for himself and for others, and you’re seeing that, when the shots are going in, it’s the same shots that he’s (been getting). The process has been good. He can generate a lot of offense for us. This was part of the reason we wanted him to have the ball more.”

Having faced defeat in their last five encounters against Orlando, Washington is eager to turn the tide in their upcoming matchup.

Orlando’s recent win against Charlotte propelled them to a ten-game winning margin and marked their best record since April 2012. The Magic’s consistent performance in rebounding highlights their tenacity and collective effort in pursuit of success.

“So much fun,” Magic forward Jonathan Isaac said. “I feel so excited, looking forward to each game. It’s something that’s just continuing to grow. We have a great group of guys that just want to win, want to compete and want to play well.”
