Wizards G Delon Wright Agrees to Contract Buyout, Joins Heat

Miami Heat SIGNING Delon Wright After Buyout From Washington Wizards

Guard Delon Wright of the Washington Wizards has reached a mutual agreement for a contract release with the team and intends to join the Miami Heat, as confirmed by his representative, Greg Lawrence, in a statement to ESPN.

At 31 years old, Wright has been averaging a mere 4.1 points and 13.8 minutes in 33 games coming off the bench for Washington this season. He sustained a knee injury in November, causing him to be sidelined for over six weeks.

Standing at 6 feet 5 inches, Wright has the potential to enhance Miami’s guard rotation. The team recently acquired guard Terry Rozier, who is recovering from a knee injury suffered last Sunday. The Heat organization has indicated that Rozier’s return timeline is indefinite.

Wright had been in his second season with the Wizards, averaging 7.4 points in 50 games during the previous season.

Over the course of nine seasons, Wright has maintained statistical averages of 7.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.1 assists across 494 games (84 of which he started) while playing for seven different teams. He was selected as the 20th overall pick by the Toronto Raptors in the 2015 NBA Draft

In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.

Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.

Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.

If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
