Luka Doncic achieved his 10th triple-double this season as the Dallas Mavericks staged a comeback from an 11-point deficit in the final quarter to secure a 112-104 victory over the visiting Washington Wizards on Monday night, extending their winning streak to five consecutive games.

Doncic concluded the game with 26 points, shooting 8-of-16 from the field, along with 15 assists and 11 rebounds. Kyrie Irving contributed 26 points, while former Wizard Daniel Gafford chipped in with 16 points and 17 rebounds.

Deni Avdija led the Wizards with 25 points, supported by Kyle Kuzma‘s 23 points. Tyus Jones recorded 14 points and a personal best of 16 assists. Washington’s losing streak extended to seven games.

Starting the fourth quarter with a 10-point lead, the Wizards saw Richaun Holmes‘ basket extend their advantage to 93-82 at the 10:08 mark.

However, Washington’s offense waned, and two three-pointers by Jaden Hardy flanking a Doncic fadeaway narrowed the Mavericks’ gap to 95-94 with 6:33 left in the game. An important 3-pointer by Maxi Kleber handed the Mavericks the lead for the first time in the half, leading to a series of exchanged baskets.

A crucial 3-pointer by Doncic gave Dallas a 102-98 lead with 4:21 remaining, followed by Kleber’s dunk making it 106-100 with 3:11 left. Irving’s fastbreak layup further stretched the lead to 110-102 with 2:07 on the clock.

Post a brief timeout, Kuzma converted a layup for Washington, but the Wizards failed to narrow the deficit to less than six points for the remainder of the game.

The third quarter began with a three-pointer from Jordan Poole, putting the Wizards in front at 61-51. Despite the initial setback, Dallas fought back, with Doncic’s fadeaway jumper reducing the Mavericks’ shortfall to 78-74.

Corey Kispert, however, responded with a three-pointer to restore the seven-point lead, and his layup in the closing moments sent Washington into the final quarter with an 88-78 advantage.

Doncic’s free throw edged the Mavericks ahead at 49-47 with 2:26 remaining in the first half, but the Wizards retaliated with an eight-point streak ─ four of which were delivered by Jones ─ within an 11-2 surge, propelling them to a 58-51 lead at halftime. Washington amassed 12 points through fastbreak plays in the second quarter.

In the first half, Kuzma amassed 16 points for Washington, complemented by Jones’ 10 assists.

Before the break, Doncic contributed 13 points and dished out 10 assists for Dallas.

Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.

In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.

Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.

Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.

If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
