The Charlotte Hornets are currently on a two-game winning streak, a rare occurrence this season. They are now striving to make it three in a row as they take on the Atlanta Hawks who are visiting on Wednesday night.

This game will be the final one for both the Hornets and the Hawks before the All-Star break.

Thanks to the recent acquisitions of Grant Williams, Seth Curry, and Tre Mann before the trade deadline, the Hornets have seen a positive boost in performance. This was evident in their latest victory over the Indiana Pacers, where the trio contributed a total of 50 points.

Leading the charge, Williams scored 21 points, Curry added 18, and Mann chipped in with 11.

“We’re more experienced and we’re much deeper, which, to be honest, is a big thing,” Charlotte coach Steve Clifford said.

The previous meeting between the Hornets and the Hawks resulted in a 116-110 victory for Charlotte, indicating a possible advantage for them in this upcoming game.

However, prior to their recent wins, Charlotte struggled, only managing to secure nine victories since their initial encounter with Atlanta on Oct. 25.

Among the Hornets’ starters from that game, three players have been traded, while the remaining two have been dealing with injuries, affecting their performance.

During the absence of key players, Miles Bridges has stepped up for Charlotte by averaging 23.4 points and 7.3 rebounds in their last 17 games, showcasing his importance to the team.

Despite their recent successes, coach Clifford remains unsatisfied with the team’s performance, especially highlighting their high turnover rate in the previous game against the Pacers.

“We can get a lot better, obviously,” Clifford said. “If we keep turning the ball over 19 times, we’re not going to win a lot.”

The Hawks, on the other hand, are determined to bounce back after their two-game winning streak was halted by a defeat against the Chicago Bulls. Nonetheless, Atlanta has won six of their last nine games, displaying their potential.

“We’ve just got to be better,” Hawks coach Quin Snyder said, referring to the team’s defensive effort. “Some of it was pick-and-roll where we were getting rejected (against Chicago).”

After a series of road game losses, the Hawks secured a crucial victory against Philadelphia, indicating a potential turnaround in their performance. Their upcoming match in Charlotte will be their third road game since Jan. 24.

Star guard Trae Young led the Hawks with 23 points in their previous game against Charlotte and continues to be a key player for Atlanta.

Despite recent performances with fewer points, Young maintains a solid average and aims to contribute significantly in the upcoming game against the Hornets.

Acknowledging the challenge posed by the revamped Hornets, Hawks guard Bogdan Bogdanovic anticipates a competitive matchup.

“A lot of guys getting traded, guys trying to prove (something),” Bogdanovic said. “It makes it a very tricky game.”

Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.

In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.

Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.

Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.

If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
