According to court documents reportedly obtained by ESPN, the state of North Carolina has dropped all three legal charges against Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges.

The dismissal of the three charges—related to a violation of a domestic violence protective order, misdemeanor child abuse, and injury to personal property—was due to “lack of sufficient evidence,” as per court records from Mecklenburg (N.C.) County, cited by ESPN.

Bridges, 25, was scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 20 in connection with the charges, stemming from an October incident in which he allegedly threw billiard balls at his ex-partner’s vehicle, causing damage while their children were inside.

The court documents reportedly mentioned conflicting statements by Bridges’ ex-partner as a reason for the dismissal, stating that “given the lack of sufficient evidence to overcome the inconsistency of these accounts, the state would not be successful at trial.”

The alleged actions by Bridges from the October incident were initially charged as a breach of a domestic violence restraining order against his ex-partner, following a June 2022 occurrence in Los Angeles where Bridges faced multiple felony charges related to domestic violence.

Two of the charges were dropped, and Bridges ultimately pleaded no contest to a felony charge involving harm to a child’s parent. He avoided imprisonment but received three years of probation, mandatory counseling, parenting classes, community service, narcotics testing, and was prohibited from possessing a firearm. He was also ordered to stay away from the victim.

“The evidence was going to show Miles was innocent and we were going to win a trial,” Bridges’ attorney, Allen Brotherton told ESPN Tuesday. “Our local prosecutor has great integrity, and people should appreciate the courage to do the right thing.”

In connection to the arrest in June 2022, Bridges received a 30-game suspension from the NBA in April 2023, with 20 games considered as time served. He served 10 games at the start of this season.

Bridges is currently averaging 21.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 42 games this season.

Reports indicated that the Hornets had been exploring potential trades for Bridges before the league’s recent trade deadline, but Bridges declined to waive his veto rights against any trade and reiterated his desire to stay with the Hornets. His contract expires at the end of this season.

The Hornets will host the Atlanta Hawks next on Wednesday.

Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.

In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.

Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.

Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.

If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
