Bucks, Hornets Clash in Search of Unusual Victory

Milwaukee Bucks vs Charlotte Hornets

The Milwaukee Bucks, endeavoring to overturn a difficult pattern, will welcome a team enduring a distressing period on Friday. Pegging a victory is of great importance to both teams.

After suffering defeats in five of their last six matchups, the Bucks will confront the Charlotte Hornets, who have endured a string of nine consecutive losses.

Coach Doc Rivers remarked, “You go through this. Hopefully, we’ll be better (Friday) and hopefully we get guys back.”

Milwaukee, with its injury-laden team, has minimal time to recover as they lost 129-105 against the Minnesota Timberwolves in their home debut under the newly appointed coach, Rivers.

“You want to win games and you want to be healthy so you can win games,” said Rivers, who took over just ahead of the 1-5 skid. “Sometimes you have to go through stuff to get stuff.”

The Bucks might witness an upturn if Patrick Beverley is ready for action following his acquisition from the 76ers. The team traded Cameron Payne and a 2027 second-round draft pick to Philadelphia in exchange for Beverley, a defensive specialist averaging 6.3 points per game this season.

Meanwhile, Milwaukee stars Damian Lillard and Khris Middleton were unable to play due to left ankle injuries.

The Hornets also made a move by trading P.J. Washington to the Dallas Mavericks for Seth Curry, Grant Williams, and a 2027 first-round pick.

Miles Bridges, a Hornets forward, has been highly productive in the recent games, scoring 41 and 45 points in the past two matchups, showcasing an impressive 3-point shooting.

However, Charlotte has encountered offensive struggles.

“The ball has got to hit the paint,” coach Steve Clifford said. “The thing that has changed, teams are helping (on defense) like we used to 20 years ago. People are giving up the 3. Right now, everyone is trying to protect the paint.”

“You’ve got to make the adjustment, which means you’ve got to move the ball. People are standing there waiting and those are our bad possessions.”

Despite recent high-scoring games, the Hornets’ defense has remained problematic, evident in their opponents’ high shooting percentages in the past few matchups.

“We’ve been struggling a lot on defense lately,” Charlotte’s Cody Martin said.

Charlotte continues to be plagued by a lengthy injury list, but there are signs of improvement as Martin, returning from injury, delivered a season-high 19 points against the Raptors.

“It’s a grind,” Martin said. “It has been a long time, just trying to find my rhythm right now. Trying not to force stuff, and I just worry about getting a win.”

The Bucks emerged victorious with a 130-99 win at Charlotte on Nov. 17, and they are set to face off again in three consecutive games across a three-week span.

Milwaukee boasts a strong home record at 21-6, while the Hornets struggle on the road with a 5-19 record.

In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.

Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.

Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.
