Heat F Haywood Highsmith Comes Back Following Car Accident

Heat's Haywood Highsmith cited for careless driving after crash

Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith is scheduled to rejoin the team on Friday, as reported by The Athletic, after he was absent from Wednesday’s win over the San Antonio Spurs due to a car collision earlier this week.

Highsmith, aged 27, collided with a pedestrian who was pushing a car that was not functional and with its lights turned off, stated the player’s representative, Jerry Dainis. As per the statement, the pedestrian was seriously harmed but was in stable condition at a hospital in Miami.

The crash happened just before midnight after the Heat secured a 121-95 triumph over the Orlando Magic on Tuesday. Highsmith, who was uninjured in the event, was charged with careless driving, according to The Athletic report.

According to Dainis, Highsmith stayed at the scene after the accident and he “had not consumed alcohol or drugs and was not speeding.” He stopped to provide assistance.

“We have been made aware that Highsmith was involved in a car accident heading home from last night’s game,” the Heat said in a statement Wednesday. “… Our hearts go out to those who were injured. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Highsmith, aged 27, has an average of 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in 37 games (24 starts) this season. This marks his third season with the Heat.

Miami will be hosting the Boston Celtics on Sunday.

In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.

Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.

Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.

If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
