Uncertain Condition of Stars as Lakers cap Consecutive Games at Atlanta

On Tuesday, the Atlanta Hawks will strive to ignite their high-powered offense against the visiting Los Angeles Lakers, a squad that has recently encountered numerous challenges in halting their opponents.
The Hawks are tied for the fourth spot in the NBA with an average of 120.2 points per game, while the Lakers rank 19th in the league in defense, conceding 117.2 points per match. However, in their recent four games, the Lakers have allowed an average of 134.5 points.
Atlanta broke a four-game losing streak by narrowly defeating the Toronto Raptors 126-125 on Sunday. This victory saw four Hawks players achieving double-doubles, marking the fifth occurrence of such a feat this season.
This is the most number of times a NBA team has achieved this since the 1978-79 Detroit Pistons accomplished it five times, and the most by a Hawks team since it happened six times in 1968-69.
“I thought we were connected (Sunday),” Hawks coach Quin Snyder said. “It is not going to happen every night, but that doesn’t mean we can’t strive for it for 48 minutes. That is our goal, to have that type of determination and perseverance when things don’t go our way.”
During the win, Atlanta’s Trae Young scored 30 points and provided 12 assists, marking the 75th time he has produced 30-plus points and 10-plus assists in his career. He became the second-youngest player and second-fastest in games played to reach this milestone, only trailing Oscar Robertson.
Young, at 25, is one 30-point, 10-assist performance away from tying Nate Archibald for the fifth-most 30-10 games in NBA history.
Hawks center Clint Capela has quietly accumulated 20 double-doubles, including a 19-point, 14-rebound performance against the Raptors. Capela has recorded 15-plus points and 10-plus rebounds on 65 percent shooting in 91 games since the 2015-16 season, which is the third most in the NBA during that period.
He trails only the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert (170 games) and the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic (97).
Atlanta hopes to have guard Dejounte Murray back for the upcoming game. Murray, who is averaging a career-high 21.4 points, had started all 45 games before sitting out Sunday due to right hamstring tightness.
The Lakers, coming off a 135-119 loss to the Houston Rockets on Monday, will be concluding a back-to-back set.
Los Angeles lagged behind by 30 points and witnessed Jarred Vanderbilt‘s early ejection in the second quarter following an incident with Houston’s Dillon Brooks.
“They got all the hustle plays, a lot of 50-50 plays,” said the Lakers’ D’Angelo Russell, who scored 23 points in the loss. “There was a lot of miscommunication that led to them getting some easy ones. That’s all a team needs to get some momentum.”
Despite a left ankle ailment, LeBron James played on Monday, and Anthony Davis was in the lineup despite having two ailing Achilles tendons. James and Davis each scored 23 points, with Davis also sustaining a hip/groin injury at Houston. He mentioned that his status would be a game-time decision on Tuesday.
“I just couldn’t move how I usually move on both ends of the floor,” Davis stated.
LeBron James last missed a game last Tuesday and has not played the second game in two of the team’s past three back-to-backs.
This will mark the third game of Atlanta’s six-game homestand and the third game of the Lakers’ six-game road trip. Both teams split the previous two games.
The Hawks and Lakers are gearing up for their first of two matchups this season, preceding a rematch in Los Angeles on March 18. The Lakers emerged victorious in both encounters last season.

Wolves C Rudy Gobert (Personal) Uncertain for Game 2
The Impact of Rudy Gobert's Absence Against the Nuggets in Game 2
Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.
In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.
Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.
Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.
If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
