Kawhi Leonard’s Triple-Double Secures Clippers’ Win vs. Lakers

Triple-Double For Kawhi Leonard vs. Lakers

Kawhi Leonard contributed 25 points as part of his second career triple-double, aiding in the Los Angeles Clippers’ 127-116 win over the visiting Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday.

Leonard also secured 11 rebounds and 10 assists, with teammate James Harden adding 23 points and 10 assists.

Paul George, Terance Mann, and Norman Powell each delivered 17 points, while Russell Westbrook tallied 16 points as the Clippers clinched their sixth victory in seven games, improving to 20-4 since the commencement of December. One of their losses had previously been to the Lakers on Jan. 7.

Harden has achieved 20 or more points in consecutive games for the third time since his debut with the Clippers on Nov 6, marking the first occurrence since Dec 2 and Dec 6.

Leonard’s only other triple-double occurred on Jan 24, 2020, amassing 33 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists as the Clippers secured a victory in Miami.

D’Angelo Russell gathered 27 points and 10 assists, with Anthony Davis pairing 26 points and 12 rebounds for the Lakers, who played without LeBron James (suffering from left ankle soreness). The Lakers stand at 5-6 in a stretch where they have played 11 out of 12 games in Los Angeles.

Jarred Vanderbilt and Austin Reaves contributed 12 points each, with Taurean Prince and Rui Hachimura adding 11 apiece for the Lakers, who are 8-14 since winning the NBA in-season tournament in early December.

The Clippers held a 13-point lead in the third quarter and entered the final period with a 108-97 advantage. The Lakers narrowed the gap to two points twice, reaching 110-108 with 7:32 remaining after Russell blocked Harden and Prince completed a fastbreak layup.

The Clippers then surged ahead with a 9-0 scoring spree, powered by five points from Powell, resulting in a 119-108 lead with 5:06 left on the clock, ultimately securing the win thereafter.

The Lakers lost Cam Reddish early in the fourth quarter when he twisted his right ankle after stepping on Harden’s foot.

The Clippers are geared up to embark on a seven-game road trip, commencing on Friday in Toronto.

Meanwhile, the Lakers will be up against the Chicago Bulls on Thursday at home, before embarking on a six-game road journey, starting on Saturday against the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco.

Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.

Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.
