Celtics’ 3-Point Onslaught Sinks Rockets to Extend Unbeaten Home Run to 19-0

In a Saturday night matchup, Jaylen Brown emerged as the top scorer with 32 points, while Jayson Tatum concluded with 27, contributing to the Boston Celtics’ 145-113 victory over the visiting Houston Rockets.
Brown effectively converted 11 of 15 field-goal attempts and displayed accuracy from beyond the arc by making 4 out of 6 3-point shots. Meanwhile, Tatum, prior to being ejected due to his second technical foul with 10:17 remaining, also showcased his skills, securing eight rebounds and distributing five assists.
Accumulating 19 points, Payton Pritchard and 17 points, Kristaps Porzingis played pivotal roles in enhancing Boston’s unbeaten home record to 19-0.
With a remarkable 51.1 percent conversion rate, the Celtics drained 24 of their 47 3-point shots. Their performance in this area fell just three made 3-pointers short of the franchise record set against the New York Knicks in 2022. Notably, ten Boston players contributed at least one successful 3-point shot.
In contrast, Houston struggled, managing a 40.4 percent field-goal rate (40 of 99) with only 7 of 30 successful 3-point attempts.
In a commendable individual performance, Cam Whitmore scored 22 points, leading the charge for Houston off the bench. Additionally, Alperen Sengun clocked in with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Dillon Brooks, after a nine-game absence due to a right oblique strain, returned to the lineup and registered 12 points in a 25-minute stint.
This match marked Houston coach Ime Udoka’s return to Boston since his dismissal as head coach after the 2021-22 season.
Boston’s early lead of 35-31 expanded to 69-58 by halftime. Notably, in the first half, Boston displayed prowess by converting 12 of 24 3-point attempts, while the Rockets trailed 51-50 with 5:45 remaining in the second quarter before the Celtics embarked on an 18-8 run to end the period.
The Celtics further solidified their dominance by initiating the second half with a streak of seven points, out of which Brown contributed five. Subsequently, they extended their lead to 27 points in the third quarter, outscoring the Rockets 43-28 and amassing a 112-86 lead heading into the final quarter.
Varied lineup rotations and strategic plays allowed the Celtics to soar with a commanding 36-point lead in the fourth quarter.
With this defeat, the Rockets’ road record fell to 4-13.

The Impact of Rudy Gobert's Absence Against the Nuggets in Game 2
Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.
In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.
Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.
Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.
If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
