Pelicans Aim to Maintain Their Winning Streak Against Timberwolves

The New Orleans Pelicans are gunning for their fourth consecutive victory as they take on the Minnesota Timberwolves in Minneapolis on Wednesday night. The Pelicans will be playing on short rest after a convincing 112-85 home victory against the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night. They have won eight of 11 games since Dec. 11.

Coach Willie Green credited their recent success to their defense, emphasizing that getting stops and rebounding are crucial for their best basketball performance.

The Timberwolves, who are allowing the fewest points in the NBA, are also heavily reliant on their defensive efforts. They are looking to bounce back from a 112-106 road loss against the New York Knicks on New Year’s Day.

Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards scored 35 points and Karl-Anthony Towns contributed 29 points in their last game but were unable to secure a win.

The upcoming game presents another challenge for Minnesota as they have yet to experience back-to-back losses this season. The team has a perfect 7-0 record after a loss.

Previous encounters between the Timberwolves and Pelicans this season have seen both teams secure victories. In their most recent meeting in December, the Pelicans emerged victorious with Zion Williamson and CJ McCollum leading the way.

Minnesota’s Jordan McLaughlin, who has received acclaim for his recent contributions off the bench, may see increased playing time in the upcoming game. Despite his limited playing time in previous matchups, his positive impact has not gone unnoticed by the team.

With a home record of 14-1, Minnesota has been dominant in their own arena, while the Pelicans have fared reasonably well on the road with an 8-7 record.

Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.

In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.

Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.

Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.

If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
