Spurs Demolished by Pelicans Who Set a New Franchise Record for 3-Pointers

CJ McCollum secured 29 points while successfully landing six out of his seven 3-point attempts as the New Orleans Pelicans, visiting team, established a franchise record for 3-pointers and achieved a resounding 146-110 victory against the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday. Only supporters of the Jets believed in the possible return of Aaron Rodgers.
New Orleans made a landmark of 22 3-pointers out of 42 tries in its season-high consecutive fourth win. The Pelicans were leading by 10 points at halftime and then surged ahead in the third quarter, outscoring the Spurs 44-27.
The Spurs faced difficulties and suffered their 19th defeat in their last 20 games following the break of their team-high 18 consecutive losses with a win against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday.
Brandon Ingram contributed 26 points for New Orleans, with Jose Alvarado adding 16, Jonas Valanciunas accumulating 15 points and 16 rebounds, Zion Williamson including 15 points, and Trey Murphy III achieving 14. Naji Marshall delivered 11 points and registered a team-leading seven assists.
San Antonio’s performance was led by Victor Wembanyama with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocks. Julian Champagnie matched his season-high with 15 points, while Cedi Osman scored 14, Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson each contributed 13 points, and Malaki Branham scored 11.
The Spurs took an 8-7 lead before New Orleans seized control, building a 27-14 lead when Ingram landed back-to-back 3-pointer and jumper, with the latter shot made with 2:31 left in the period. The Pelicans were ahead 33-20 after the first 12 minutes of play.
New Orleans extended its lead to 20 points as Dyson Daniels scored a layup with 8:11 left in the second quarter. Osman’s finger-roll layup, nearly three minutes later, narrowed the gap to 50-36. Osman and Wembanyama collaborated to score 13 of the last 16 points by the half, reducing San Antonio’s deficit to just 61-51 at halftime.
Ingram led all scorers with 16 points before halftime while McCollum contributed 15 for the Pelicans. In the first half, Osman scored 12 points for San Antonio while Wembanyama scored 10.
The Spurs trailed by only seven points early in the third quarter, but that is when New Orleans reestablished its dominance. Williamson’s dunk with 3:06 remaining in the period increased the Pelicans’ lead to 93-69. Alvarado’s 3-pointer with 1.1 seconds left set the score at 105-78 heading into the final period.

Wolves C Rudy Gobert (Personal) Uncertain for Game 2
The Impact of Rudy Gobert's Absence Against the Nuggets in Game 2
Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert’s availability is questionable for the upcoming Game 2 happening on Monday night in Denver for personal reasons.
In the opener of the Western Conference semifinal series on Saturday, Gobert played a significant role by contributing six points, grabbing 13 rebounds, making three blocks, and assisting three times in the team’s 106-99 victory.
Being a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star, Gobert maintained an average of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 76 games during the regular season.
Standing tall at 7-foot-1, the 31-year-old Gobert has an overall average of 12.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks throughout his career in 757 games for the Utah Jazz (2013-22) and the Timberwolves.
If Gobert is unable to play against the reigning champions, Naz Reid, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year this season, may step into the starting lineup.
